I KNEW she would be the perfect Elphaba! Ever since I first heard her sing in The Prom, I knew I felt some Idina Menzel vibes! I mean not in the sense of "oh she's just an Idina copy" but in the sense of that like Idina, she can pull off the type of vocal abilities necessary for the role of Elphaba and she's the perfect candidate to do the role if Idina herself ends up not doing it for the movie. Also I know people want Dove Cameron to play Glinda but I personally feel actors who have done a lot of Broadway deserve the chance to partake in the film adaptions of the Broadway shows. Edit:Ok I know Dove has done some Broadway but I still don't totally know if she's the right choice for Glinda.

Cynthia Erivo's voice is way too pretty and lacks the grit and power and pain to sing Elphaba. She's Michael older than Ariana and her voice is too sweet pf a tone and will blend too well with Ariana's Glinda. Thus she is a miscast. So shut up you social justice warrior. Just because your black doesn't mean your perfect for any role. Just because you're black doesn't mean you would be bad in a role. But Cynthia Erivo is no an Elphaba and woulda been a Glinda at best. I like her… however, she isn’t the best/most trained vocalist. Tremendously talented… but she hasn’t developed her head voice and mix. It is all chest belt. She also seems to do a lot of straight tone singing - which creates strain. The vibrato helps sustain the pitch and colors the lines. I just don’t think she is a good fit for Elphaba… which requires a more trained voice.

Some of your issues wouldn't matter for the film. She wouldn't have to sing it eight times a week and her vocals can be sweetened in the studio. But the tonal quality one would expect for such a role doesn't seem to be there. It requires a richer voice.

Beautiful voice, but I don’t like her choices. The transitioning between singing/speaking feels awkward and actually disrupts the vocals in a way I haven’t seen with other Elphabas. It’s just missing something (practice? training?), but again, beautiful voice nonetheless.

She would have been an amazing Elphi.I absolutely love Cynthia. But she looks a little too mature for the role next to Ariana. She's extremely talented, but one of them should have been reconsidered. If Cynthia was going to be Elphaba, then rethink Ariana as Galinda. I'm worried this will like Ben in Dear Evan Hansen.
