if you don't understand this song: basically, she's saying a thank you to pete davidson for his understanding of mac's passing. if you didn't know already, ariana had to break off her engagement with pete because she still loved mac, her ex boyfriend who she still had love for, but he passed. she is saying she knows it breaks his heart when she cries again over mac. but she is also saying that she can't get over mac, therefore she and pete needed to break up, because she knew her truest love was gone.

This song really did help me connect as well mostly at the part ‘ he just comes to visit me every now and then ‘, that’s honestly how it felt when I lost a person that was important to me. You just can’t let them go. It’s going to get better though, don’t let it hold you down and take away all the good stuff. She probably has like 2-3 songs per album that she writes but never releases. It's sad to think that she probably wrote this one shortly after Mac died, and while its a tribute its new to us a serves as a gentle reminder of him.
