tristan's point about words is soooo accurate. I ONE HUNDRED percent will cut off the start or ends of words either for stylistic reasons or simply because the note's easier to hit when i'm starting on a vowel sound instead of some super closed consonant. The fact people don't seem to know this really surprises me XD. People don't have to understand you to vibewith you with especially in pop. this ain't broadway people

I absolutely agree that Ariana basically saved pop music in 2018. I'd just advise you to maybe go through Lady Gaga's career and realize her versatility how she went from dance pop to jazz to edm to country. Now she's crossing over to the film industry with rave reviews (oscar nomination is pretty much on lock) with A Star is Born (you reacted to I'll never love again). To me, she's the best vocalist of our generation, but Ariana is improving so much I think they're going to be at the same level vocal wise.

I really want to pursue Vocal, but my biggest draw back is having to be trained purely in a classical sense. Yes, I’m skilled in the classical area, but I want to do other styles too. I’m just happy there are people with a vocal background who appreciate different styles.

Well actually it’s great that you have trained in classical. When you train in that area, it’s a lot easier to learn other styles. If you only belted pop songs for the rest your life, it would be very very difficult to learn classical. Classical is the best way to start off a voice. It’s kind of why they teach you Spanish in elementary school. If you want to learn other languages it’s really great to know Spanish because it’s very similar to other languages.

in choir, my teacher is always like 'LAHV' not love, etc, but one of the main things she stresses is when our sopranos go way up there she always says, for example on a word like 'gaily' in Carol of the Bells she says pronounce "Gayee" (its weird, but this proves that tristan knows his shit!)

When Sopranos hit the higher notes it's all vowel because you're pushing the sound to the very top of your mouth. So it's always taught to basically drop everything but the open vowels. As a natural alto I am always so jealous of the Sopranos who hit the higher notes.
