The reason this album is very “tropical” and potentially sometimes “busy” is because it was produced by Pharrell. This was definitely an experimental album for Ariana.

Something fans often get wrong or forget is that Ariana was with Mac during the majority of making this album. The album was almost complete when she broke up with him and when she started dating Pete. People think the whole album is about Pete but they met so shortly before the album came out lol. She added that little Pete song veryyy last minute before the album had to be turned in. She made the song sweetener over a year before the album came out she said, and the lyrics show it’s about Mac. 🤍 She had to take Goodnight n go off the setlist because she kept crying during it because it was Mac’s favorite song.

Goodnight n go is a remake of the song goodnight and go by Imogen Heap, who Ari has many times said that’s her fav artist since she was a kid. She changed it up but kept some same lyrics and the vibe but made it sexy and put her twist on it. I love the end when she has that little bridge “i know you want it baby just like this . Know you think about it just one kiss, while you’re looking at em baby read my lips. I know what you want but you can’t have this” So cute! Imogen heap thought the song was really cool! (They have her thoughts on the genius lyrics app)

The song better off and even some of the lyrics of everytime kill me since mac died. I wonder what Ariana thinks of better off since his passing. That had to be hard knowing you put out that song and he dies and you realize you were most definitely not better off without him.💔😭 edit yeah, no better off was about mac sadly. Hurts so bad to hear that. Her friends on the dangerous woman tour said she never ever slept because she was always worrying about mac if he would overdose, so worried because she tried so so hard for years to help him get clean but he didn’t want to and she eventually had to leave because she couldn’t handle it anymore. So So sad.

I think Ariana would definitely say Pete was never her soulmate like she once thought lmao she has shaded him a lot since then as wanting her for her fame. Like the song “in my head” says “you fell for a version of a person you made up in your head” lol 😂 if the title wasn’t Pete’s name and it was just an interlude it wouldn’t be as embarrassing 😂I love her.
