I’ve always liked the idea of if any 2 of the top 3 contenders agree to fight for the right to progress automatically to the title shot. It’s a business so at the end of the day it’s going to win out for who gets any top tier fight these days. I think if the ufc limited the roster to no more than a top 15 or 20 contenders for each champions belt in each division.

Belal fought one champ (Leon) and was on his way to getting 50-45d. He fought Maia at 44, Thompson at 39, and had a nice win against Brady, who’s never had a top-5 win himself. That’s not a real championship resume, it’s only looked at that way because everyone else has already got a title shot at some point so people think he’s “up”. Cap, 80% of UFC fans have no clue who Belal is… the only reason for that is because he hasn’t caught engine really noteworthy. Usually you have good takes, but you should know what a takedown is and if they scored Colby’s takedown against Usman (which was a takedown) he actually wins that fight. Belal needs a gateway fight, I hardly even know the fighter dude. Colby has been close enough to get the nod for the belt.

The one thing I disagree is that champions should pick their opponents. Once your a champ the attitude should be: "Bring me whoever you guys got, I'll beat them all, I don't care what order, I'm the best". Maybe behind the scenes they should be part of the conversation. On the way up as a contender, it's the opposite, gotta always be calling out the champ and guys ahead of you.
