Also, that line "me, myself and I, trying not to die" just love it, weird and all who can relate to that kind of exitentialism can appreciate it and smile, i think .......and hope

which solo did they borrow? light my fire?
@RoninAvenger Жыл бұрын
Not really the doors solely lol. If you're familiar with old underground 60s garage rock then you know electric organs were used constantly in music like this. The Doors definitely not originate it, and the Beatles were British thieves who copied music from small garage bands in various towns and cities across the US.

Agreed. The harmonies are straight Jefferson Airplane or The Cyrkle. I love reinterpretations of the '60s.

I hear a lot of influences in this. The solo section at 1:49 and the outro sounds just like The Doors, could as well come from Light My Fire. I also hear a David Bowie influence and a Frank Zappa influence. And as Chris said, parts of it sounds inspired by The Beach Boys, especially melodically. However, this is the best track of the album, absolutely brilliant.

Solo in middle is almost a direct lift of the solo in the middle of Doors' "Light my Fire" (which was a bit of a "lift" from Coltrane's "My Favorite Things") But so what ... everybody is influenced by everyone else. As a regular reader of Bobby's blog for years, I would never venture a guess what he might think of this song, though I'm guessing the phrase "Tinseltown Tranny" might get a rise out of him, depending on his mood. I hope he's in a good place.

i didnt like his first "produced," lp but he managed since the last 3 lp to find the right balance between lo fi and listenable. a true genius.
@Raphie0095 жыл бұрын
@@ludochem I tried very...very hard to get into his Haunted Graffiti collection...but a lot of the songs had no structure or cohesion. I bumped all of House Arrest and only liked one song... ...however, having him go back to that sound with studio equipment is working out.
@ludochem5 жыл бұрын
@@Raphie009 ok so we agree. maybe i am weird, i fell in love instantly to his stuff back in the late 2000s and very few people around me got it. this LP is his best so far (pom pom was very good as well). i was so disapointed of his first official LP as for me he lost what makes him special.
@Raphie0095 жыл бұрын
@@ludochem Yeah, everything since he signed to 4AD has been an artistically progressive step in the right direction. Amazing what happens when he's taken out of the basement. I also didn't like Pom Pom but I loved Before Today and Mature Themes.

Died May 2015 ... likely his Aortic aneurysm popped, though we'll never really know. His step brother Quentin might know more. But you shouldn't smoke with an aneurysm, and Bobby smoked a lot of cigarettes every day. He was also seriously stressed about money and losing his home after his mother died and he only had his own SSI to live on, which wasn't much.
