I used to own a 1957 Ariel Square Four. To me, it sounded more like an Offenhauser than an.......Offenhauser!!! I had reverse cone megaphones on it. It sounded great with the tips on and incredible with the tips off!!

yes i agree , when possible bikes must be left as they are. we are only a passage in their life and is our must to repair and keep them running but never delete the previus sign of their life

It's a shame Royal Enfield have'nt thought of doing a square four with modern machinery & liquid cooling dohc square 4 should be possible for a good designer without old problems due to better alloys, steels, die cast casings.

Restore & maintain if you want to use them for more years to come. Don't restore if you want to put them in museum or let them rusted to pieces.

eworque mechanically restore sure.....as for ruing that patina by doing a show pony refinish and rechrome you might as well refinish the Mona Lisa

I'm going to have to disagree with your disagreement, you haven't seen the condition of my dads 48'. Rear wheel missing, dynamo gone, unoriginal fuel tank, rust on every surface, wires and hoses all rotted out, paint faded chipped and cracked to the point of the wind flaking it off. But I guess if you like your old stuff rotting into non-existence and nothing more than a memory then you don't want them restored.
