Repainting the whole wall is probably the simplest solution, and that will allow it to stay even throughout the years. If sunbleaching is the culprit, you'll just end up with two different colours again in a few years if you try to match the current colour. Also, if you usually have a lamp on your nightstand in addition to the wall light, that can also have affected the colour of the wall.

Daughter of a contractor here, she always told me that re-painting small sections needs to happen in a couple of days of the entire section being painted; otherwise you will drive yourself crazy trying to get it to match, and as your mom said, it will not age the same as the rest of the wall and you will always be able to tell. I'm sorry to say it, but you're options are to cover up the spot with something (furniture, tapestry, wallpaper etc.) or repaint the wall.
@sophiablow34228 ай бұрын
Your mom is right. Paint ages. Also gloss paint goes cream with age. If you use white satin for your woodwork, not only is it water based and brushes wash out with water, but the colour stays white, and looks classier.

With paint, not only does it change in the sun, but not every tin of the same colour will be exactly the same shade. The labels on the tins often advise mixing two tins together if you need multiples to avoid colour differences. I've never bothered and almost always have got away with it, except in one room where I switched to a new tin after cutting in the second coat. You can really really see it...
@kaybee78608 ай бұрын
yeah the paint can might just be slightly different, the easiest solutions i think would be blending the edges with a sponge, mixing in some red, yellow, and black to color match, or just repainting the whole wall

Repainting that wall is your best solution. Paint colours change/fade over the years. You'll NEVER match it 100%. You have a full can...take it to your local paint store or hardware store and ask them to shake it up for you in the machine. Then paint just that wall. LOVE your mini shadow box 💜

I used a paint color that took about two weeks to “cure” to the actual color. I was pretty panicked when the initial coats were NOT right. I paused for a few days to research new colors and in that time I noticed the paint color deepened and changed. I waited and two weeks later it was exactly what I wanted. Maybe you just need to let the paint cure. Edit to add: I wonder if it got too cold over the winter and maybe that messed up the paint. 🤷♀️

The paint problem is called flashing, it often happens when you touch up paint. Did you paint the wall with a brush or roller before? Because it’s usually a texture change and if you used a roller and then touched up with a brush it can look different. You could try feathering out the paint at the edges to blend it more or maybe thinning the paint slightly. The best result would come from repainting the whole wall though unfortunately
@kaybee78608 ай бұрын
yeah softening the transition could really make it harder to notice, maybe blending it with a sponge or something

About the wall: How many coats did you do of the white originally? Maybe the previous wallcolour was shining through a bit and adding another layer covered that up? But I agree with the comments that just painting the whole wall seems like the easiest way to solve this, other than just living with a slightly whiter patch
@kaybee78608 ай бұрын

Regarding the bedroom wall: Most wall colors are water soluble after they have dried. If you have a little nick in the wall you can go over it with a wet sponge. Maybe you can try to soften the edge of the new patch with a wet sponge? Hope that helps make it less obvious.

For the wall I don‘t know why it happens, but my solution when repainting a small patch is to really thin out the paint at the edges, go over it with a dryer and dryer brush. This way there are no hard edges and as long as the colour is similar you don’t notice it. Although your patch may be a bit big for that, who knows.

When we moved into our house, the sellers left behind the paint they had used. There were some holes to patch in the living room, and once I patched them and was painting them, the colour wasn't a perfect match. I read about it online and apparently the temperature and climate at the time of painting affects the exact shade that you get. Without knowing what time of year the sellers painted, it would be pretty impossible to get the exact same shade years later. So I waited until it was spring because I figured people would at least wait until the weather was nice to paint but even then it doesn't quite match. It was small sections and partially covered by artwork but we've since had to do electrical work and now I have larger patches to paint over that will be more visible. I think eventually we will just end up painting the whole room because it will never match.

For the wall colour, it's completely normal. Not only does colour change over time as your mother said, for environmental reasons (sun, smoke, CO2 from your breath, etc) but it also has slight differences between pots of paint. You should repaint those 2 walls (ceiling and wall behind the bed). You will not notice the colour difference between the different walls as the angles will conceal any slight colour nuances. Colour changes are only noticeable if they occur on the same wall.

You'll likely have to repaint the entire wall. BUT if you're not wanting to do all of that quite yet and want to try something. I like to feather out the edges of the repainted patch areas. So then at least the lines of new vs old paint isnt so harsh and it might be able to blend into one another with the naked eye. Paint the area again, then with the same brush with less paint on it, or barely any, softly brush out the lines so it blends into the old paint. Hope that makes sense, and helps!

As a painter I clean my brushes with cooking oil, margerine or vaseline: rub it on and let it sit a while, then wash it off with dish soap. This also works for adhesive residue as well as paint. I've had the same problem with the paint...I think your mom is right that the colors tend to age. Also, I think it's pretty common that two cans of the same pale, subtle shade would be slightly different because just a little pigment in the mix makes a big difference. Someone below said to just repaint that one wall, and I agree--you probably won't notice the shade difference if it changes at a corner!

I love your hair in last couple of videos, your curls look very nice. Regarding the paint patch, my parents always told me that you can't paint over a patch only, you have to repaint the entire wall. There are two reasons behind it : 1) your paint aged on your wall, especially if your room is getting a lot of sun, so the color is different from what is left in the pot. 2) the color beneath the new layer is different from the color beneath the layer in your entire wall, so it affects the new layer with appears different. So yay, as painful as it is, I would suggest to repaint the whole wall.

For the paint thing I am just going to go with the quality of the paint. I had a room where I paintet just parts of it because I tore down a built in closet. When I did this I had lived in the flat for some years. The last person living there had left some old cans of paint in the storeroom, so I knew both the code for the colour and the brand of paint. I got the same brand and it worked perfectly. When the paint was dry you couldn't tell I had only painted parts of the room. The brand of paint was really high quality and they have used computers to mix their paint for decades in each store, so you always get freshly mixed paint to exact measuremnts every time you buy a can. The brand still recommend you redo the whole room when repainting, but I needed to save money, so I took a chance, and it worked out.

Hi, so painter decorator here. The colour may yet match a day or so but don't get your hopes ups. Old houses seem to attract more dust especially up stairs, your wall colours probably will discolour faster. My advice is to just paint that wall and try cut in at the corner and not go on the other wall. The walls will look the same if you do that because the paint always looks different on each wall anyway cause of light and colour theory and all that. sadly paint is weird and there is also a chance that the paint in the tin has been sitting for to long but its probably just the walls.
