What I think of BMW's F900 GS Enduro

Let's give this thing a proper pounding through rough enduro tracks, then finish off on the motocross track to determine if the changes I've made to the suspension allow the bike to live up to it's name - the F900 GS Enduro!

What Adam says at the end is very true BUT, the fact that Western countries have become so much more expensive than competitors is due to Western governments artificially ramping up the costs of manufacturing with nonsensical "renewable energy" agendas (I've been following that conundrum for many many years and it doesn't make sense!), their unwillingness to explore and develop cheap and abundant energy, irresponsible monetary and interest rate policies and a perpetually expanding bureaucracy that costs an arm and a leg to sustain. Governments always expect citizens to take the hit and start cutting costs whereas they never do that and always expand like a malignant growth. But any sort of growth that doesn't have an apoptotic/checking mechanism, ends up cancerous and killing the host. The host is us! We pay the taxes! Wake up people, the current path is not sustainable. A Greek sufferer (of a textbook case of an ever-expanding State). P.S. BMW and many other traditionally Western brands, outsourcing the manufacturing of their bikes, or large parts of it, to Chinese producers should sound an alarm for the West. P.S. 2. Exactly like Adam says at the very end, I looked at the market and couldn't justify the prices being asked for inferior bikes (with huge bundles of electronic junk that I will never or seldom use - but will surely have to pay) from those of the recent past. So I bought my second 990 Adventure which I'll try to keep for as long as I can. They don't make bikes like these anymore. Manufacturers don't really want adventure riding to continue. This requires premium parts and that's expensive. They want Starbucks customers to keep buying their bikes and gather at coffee shops to talk about the next bike in line for consumption. Literally and metaphorically.

If we are being objective here, he sounds more like a BMW paid salesman than any other video I've seen about this bike. This conspiracy of all the youtube reviewers just saying what the sponsor wants is vastly overblown. Just idiots trying to think they are superior by "figuring out" and "knowing more" than everyone else. It's all stupid. The man is sitting there lamenting that the bike that is built to sell bikes isn't built for his 1% of riders style and skill level, and then attempting to justify it by being elitist about a brand well known for charging more than their product is worth. You can get 80% of the BMWs performance, features, and durability for 40% of the cost now, just doesn't make sense to throw your money away at BMW.

I totally understand his point. And it's valid. BUT most people are not like him and don't need the " big brand " stuff. And let's not forget about the price, there is NO way i can rake more than 10K Euro to get a bike. I love his content and i love the Adam, but he just missed the biggest group of ADV riders with his comment, the group that have bikes under 10k. Hell, maybe even under 5k. If i had the money to get a 890R or a F900GS Enduro, yes i would buy one. But i just can't like most people. And i was about fudging time the 'Big brands' got some pressure.

If Aprillia had a stronger dealer network I would be all over the Toureg 660. One hell of a bike but riding through central America would make me nervous as hell. So T7 it is for me.

Agreed!!! Please give us your no nonsense opinion!!! Coming from a standard but upgraded T7 (owned) theres no doubt the Toureg 660 (tested) is a more refined beast and right up there in capability... BUT I know what I'd rather be riding in the outback due to dealer network and known reliability. The Beemer seems to be a contender - bigger than the Yam and Aprilia but with similar tech to the 660 and with more dealership options in Oz... still holding on to the T7 despite having to contend with tippiness when slow moving... low slung Safari 45lt tank could be the fix?

​@@BernieRunns I'm from Costa Rica, i agree, italian bikes are not very common in here, heck, not even Kawasaki sells as much as Honda and Yamaha, or even Suzuki, as the owner of a Versys x300, i have had to deal with a few issues myself, because I can't even call the dealership, that has 2 offices within the central area of the country, to ask for an air filter for the Versys x300, because they might not have it in stock, while the Chinese bikes have everything in stock everywhere around the country. Thing is, i would be extremely worried about breaking an Italian bike in Central America too, the support is near non existent, Costa Rica is a very small country, but i live at 200+km away from the closest Kawasaki dealership. I'm lucky that the Versys x300 is not a complicated bike, you won't catch me ever riding an Italian bike, they're too freaking sensitive.

Great review, thanks. I used to be an old bike rider XR DRZ, DR etc, but now that I am old, I like the modern bikes. The reality for me is I cant ride the way you ride, so if it can handle what you throw at it, it will be fine for me. The other reality is a lot of us have to do tarmac as well as off road, so I appreciate how good these new bikes are on road.

As always great video. I especially appreciate your comments about standing behind real deal brands. I think that this is arguably most important, honest and brave stance to take in light of the unravelling of many budget adv brands where an attractive price is likely combination of cutting corners and unfair state subsidies. In the long run it will be beneficial for us, riders to support established brands even if that means paying a premium over the unfair competition

Yeah but people want bikes that look like adventure bikes, not necessarily ones that can perform well in the dirt and mud. These are purchases that would be used 90% on the road for commuting and 10% on weekend gravel rides to a campsite. They don't need trick Showa shocks, just something with low running costs and more ground clearance than a typical beginner bike.

Adam would shit bricks if he got a Tuareg ride He appreciates electronics, loves the T7 weight and power(which Aprilia intentionally targeted to match), and blew all the competition out of the water with good stock suspension and chassis. No tower clunk that he mentioned all adv bikes have. I put sw motech adventure rack and pro side carrier so mine is adventure ready in about 30 seconds of quick connect mounts. Plus optimate 108's. Absolutely love it

Well said. 100% agree on supporting the manufacturers that do all the development. Those that copy can't and don't innovate, which means you are contributing to innovation dying if you buy based on price alone. R&D costs money, and we should support that as consumers. At the same time, I do think the major manufacturers should do their best to keep prices in line and not just focus on shareholder profits.

You can go into the settings for the specific mode, Enduro Pro and set the Traction Control and ABS to be on or off for that mode. Although, I have the 850GSA now, I'm planning to replace it with a T7 here in the next year.

To get into the settings menu, you have to press down on the toggle switch and then use the wheel once you're in the sub menu. It's a little confusing at first, but once you get used to it, its easy to use on the fly

I would love that bike with a valving and spring setting from pro racing rally raid suspension tuners 🤘 I got my MX bike done last year and the bike was much more predictable and stable. I checked the fork oil against the setting they claimed it to be and then raised it by 10mm and it wouldn't ever bottom the fork again, so their settings were spot on for me ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Factory Connection in USA

I always enjoy your comments in your perspective I think more people should really take a look at this video and specially listen to what you say at the end it is so very true and unfortunately you are only one of the only people I have seen talk like this about Adventure motorcycles and top brand motorcycles I applaud what you say great job and I will continue to watch your videos every one that you put out cuz I truly enjoy what you say where you ride and being an American I love your accent. I checked out this 900 at my local dealer here in Ohio it's over 16,000 American quite expensive but I guess the quality is there my only two options would be Honda and BMW I'm not a KTM guy. The button to the right of the control wheel, push down to enter a menu. Use the wheel to scroll up and down the menu. On the button there’s an icon at the bottom, the same icon is under until menus (kind of an arrow down). Same for up on the button. Matches the screen. Takes some getting used to.

I love my 22 890r. It does everything I want it to do. I have 2 sets of wheels, soft Avon’s set up on the OEM crap rims for the road, and hard core rims and tyres for the off road stuff. Contrary to what the knockers say I’ve had a 790 and 890r and loved them both. Done about 15k on both with zero problems. Keep up the great content👍

My 790R did everything I wanted till it needed new cams, valves, followers at 30k. Ive since found no less than four 890R owners that have had their 890R fail at low km with the exact same issues my 790 has. Its not good to no longer trust your bike and if twice the manufacturers services still means failure who wants to own it ?

As a Guide and mechanic specializing in BMW’s, I don’t care for the 700-850cc ADV bikes off road. If I’m going off road I use my personal KTM990 or 500exc to lead tours. We are awaiting the 900’s availability and are taking delivery of a 1300 soon. I spent 12 days in Baja on an 850 off road and I just don’t find them capable. Seeing your and other testers wringing out the 900, I’m starting to look forward to getting one. It’ll take a heck of a bike to get me off of my 990!

Just check all the stuff he’s done with the 890R, most recently the 890R MY23(? - the one with the updated fairing) reveiw after doing the promo video. His primary focus is fundamental balance and dynamics so 901 and 890 will be the same.

Great review, Adam. Not everyone needs a new bike - wait a year and buy a used one and get some of the extras for "free". And in reality very few people need all that power, and there aren't many who can really handle it either. Increasing the engine size, power and weight each year is only a money spinner aimed at the well-off. My F650GS/Dakar from 2001 still runs well and I don't need a dealer to service it. 2001 F650gs here. 91000kms going strong Nothing but consumables, valve checks ✔ and I changed the water pump and rebuilt the calipers as preventative maintenence. If BMW/APE built this bike today with the Austria built Rotax, I would go buy it again.

@@danberry3417 The only thing that irritates me with my bike is the very fast idle - have you solved that? I had a few electrical problems but the F650 club in Sydney helped me (I’m in Sweden).🌻

Yes,its apper its built for more out of tarmac ride..the windshield shape says that..beautiful..
