This is not a fair question and never is when listening to excellent artists. There is so much at play in the different versions that it is only a matter of taste rather than a comparison of skill. I prefer Jaroussky for the depth and timbre of his tone as well as the tempo of the performance. Other people's ears hear it differently, therefore they are drawn to a different performance. They are all wonderous and a gift to us.

Jaroussky's voice comes from a different planet, from the outerspace, unhuman pure sensitivity and beauty; Orlinski is a natural, he breathes each note and each word, and embodies Vivaldi as if it was easy. I really love both.

Every singer has his own interpretation, so the idea of "who sings best" is just a reflection of the listener's preferences.

All of them are elite in skill. The difference between Orlinski and the rest, though, is his mastery of chest and head voice. There is 0 transition as his ability to change between the 2 is ridiculous. Then there's his intelligent use of vibrato. When you're in an emotionally vulnerable state, your voice starts to shake. Orlinski's vibrato points in the song portray a heightened emotional state that sounds more like someone who is actually sad and vulnerable while speaking to you. The rest are just singing. Lastly, Orlinski is proficient in stress; the thing we learned in grade school about which syllable to put emphasis on. He drives the stress points in his verses home. In my opinion, those factors are why he's my favorite. I wrote this while listening to Jaroussky's version, since a lot of commenters like to compare the 2. I don't hate his version BTW. Orlinski's version is just my pick. P.S. maybe another reason why I pick Orlinski over Jaroussky is that Orlinski is better at pronunciation. Jaroussky pronouncing "vedro" as "vedru" kinda irks me.

All the voices are very good in their own right; of that there is no doubt. Regarding breath control, Lea and Sonia did not sing the first long phrase in one breath. Not only did Manuela sing it in one breath, it was at the slowest tempo of all. Brava to her for that. I also liked her ornamentation. As for the men, there will always be fans of both. Philippe sings more sweetly than Jakub, who sings more robustly. Personally, I prefer Philippe, but in the end, it's all a matter of taste. I enjoyed all the performances for different reasons. I love these "who sings it best" things. In this case, Jakub gets the vote from me. His voice is clear as a bell and soaring, just absolute perfection. Even my husband called out from the other room that it was beautiful (high praise from that quarter). I love Sonia Prina, but this is not my favorite offering of hers. Jakub it is!!!

these confrontations are so interesting, and the baroque and beyond host gives references to the recordings which sometimes have the name of the orchestra and/or music director. the name of the latter should always be given because it is sometimes him or her who creates the atmosphere. it is interesting how personal everybody's preferences, and how being a fan sometimes changes our way of hearing... sometimes a beautiful face does the trick! but it shows how much different personalities and interpretation brings even when a voice as such is not ideal...

All fabulous singers...BUT ... I suspect that Jakub produces the sound imagined by the composer and was the first performer I ever heard singing this piece so he is embedded...Lea has an advantage because I've always had a crush on her as her voice melts my heart (you must have heard her singing 'lo piango' by De Bottis with Cecilia Bartoli !)...Phillipe's voice has such purity which makes me look up to the high vaulted ceilings of cathedrals...the brilliant Manuela and Sonia have, for this piece, in my humble opinion, too much vibrato and I hear them more readily singing livelier faster paced works with panache...nonetheless each one is a remarkable talent.

All of them so good and have something different to offer. But in terms of providing the best musical context to really hear every note and to be invited into having an experience of deep introspection and meditation of the sound and text is Jaroussky.
