JK Rowling also never specified her skin color _specifically_ to allow minorities to imagine her as looking like them. Brown hair and eyes with frizzy hair. She could be anyone, of any race. JK Rowling never specified the race of Hermione Granger because she operates in a tradition of White Western authors assuming that whiteness is the racial default. She took her characters’ race for granted to the point where she didn’t feel like she had to state it. The only characters whose race she specifically mentions are her characters of color.
