If one wants to talk about redemption, then it would require EVERY single voter who publicly endorsed Buhari on any media, educational, or professional platform and social space to offer an apology. Noted writer Lola Shoneyin, whose father was jailed under Buhari during his first “regime”, endorsed him in 2015. Perhaps she too, should publicly apologize. If in fact, Soyinka did “endorse” Buhari (which I do not recall), it was due to the circumstances the country was in at the time. I doubt that all of the millions of voters who put him in office could predict the present day situation.

I like the way Prof is putting it that the President is out of touch without him even realizing that. There is still much of the military mentality in Buhari. Indeed the nation has changed as indeed the world has changed in these past years. Nothing stays the same. The world is rapidly evolving Remember the dinosaurs in the earlier age of creation were too slow to adapt to the new environment. Where are they today ? The times have left them behind . The same thing is ominous of any rigid leader.

He is not telepathic and everybody deserves a fair trial. Besides, I won't call the Buhari government a total failure. They have actually achieved a lot silently when it comes to infrastructural development and project delivery compared to other previous governments. They obviously have more saboteurs right now and lots of external challenges on security. Problems requiring a collective or collaborative solutions.

Thanks Prof. Soyinka! By the way, the false equivalency comparing President Buhari's social media free speech 'quota' with the God-given rights of regular citizens (like Mr. Kanu) is ill-informed, to say the least. As free citizens in a free world, Nigerians reserve the right to freely associate and express themselves without governmental intrusions and restraints. The courts are available for the President and his chorts to seek redress in cases of real or imagined "subversive" speeches/acts. However, President Buhari is an unmitigated disaster for Nigeria's democracy at this time. He should be banished to his Niger relatives where his allegiance is grounded. He is not a true president!

Wole Soyinka - not sure how to evaluate him. He has been a non-conformist - was arrested, labelled a traitor and went to jail for going to meet with Ojukwu in "Biafra Land" in 967 ". He has written sarcastic poems and plays critical of government. He has never been shy about sharing opposing views - including giving up his US Green Card in protest when trump won. So the man who endured all that is today an enigma to me and this is why: His daughter, Moremi was appointed to the Police Funds Committee by buhari in 2019. I guess we should not expect Wole Soyinka to be running his adult children's lives right? Also, if you watched buhari's commemoration of the Mobolaji Johnson Railway Terminal in Lagos recently, Wole Soyinka was there. Why? I am not sure! It might just be that he was trying to balance his responsibility as a citizen against his indignation at the corruption and insensitivity that have characterized this moribund government of a dying nation.

Think about elections where underaged voters in Kano, Katsina, Kaduna etc are turning millions upon millions of votes to the Hausa/Fulani candidates with little or no ‘void’ votes. And SW, SE and SS qualified voters who registered for months cannot get their voters cards. The few ones that went to vote, more than half of the votes are categorized as ‘void’ votes.....Nigerians, I can’t see tunnel let alone light at the end...

I love my Prof Wole Soyinka, very intelligent and outstanding man but still want to know why he supported Buhari in 2015. He knew Buhari's background very well, a man without proper educational background, a man who dismantled a democratic government by coup, a tribal bigotry, a man who never managed any corporate body, a man with low IQ. Still want to know why he supported such person.

Jonathan mismanagement and embezzlement was the reason behind all that and many Nigeria thought Buhari has come of age as a mature person and know one is above mistake and if you can remember that many Nigerians voted for Jonathan in 2011 thinking that he was going to manage Nigeria affair well but looting was the case when crude oil was sold for 119€ per barrel, now is the way forward not to be dwelling on the past .

Unfortunately Buhari is tone deaf and incapable of doing what is fair, just and right for all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic groups. He has shown himself by words and actions to be a sectional leader. Reality on the ground, evidence of a failed nation is all around. Only time would reveal the extent of damage on the nation by inaction and non performance of the Buhari government

Some years back Wole was amongst those who imposed Buhari on millions of competent Nigerians. Now, he’s doing what he gets paid for and it’s a big shame. He enjoys seeing Nigeria on same situation since I knew him…… it’s sad Nigeria has neither elders nor leaders of selfless character ……. Na so so grammar we dey hear since 1960…. Big shame
