His record remains unrivalled by any politician of the South East or Nigerian stock. Dr Michael Iheọnụkara Ọkpara was an icon whose economic development template and policies should be studied in our tertiary education institutions. Today's politicians are neither patriotic nor committed to the advancement of Nigeria and her citizens. What a big shame.

He was behind the oil palm revolution in Igboland. University of Nigeria Nsukka was built with oil palm proceeds, not with crude oil money.

Quintessential Uzo! Very articulate and comprehensive in so short a time to summarise the pragmatic life of a sage - Dr M I Okpara! A chip off the block! If our leaders can take up 1% of the dedication, altruism and love for the people of this great country, we will not be in this abhorrent valley of decay, greed, bigotry and avarice! Thank you Uzo! I can never forget your passion for Nigeria several times we met in your Agric factory! Indeed a great chip!!!

I studied Nigerian history as a GS course in my first year of the university in 1999. Nigerian history was taught in schools at all levels. I was a science student and still did history. Nigeria needs to return history to schools

Those were the true patriot the real Nigerians who care about Nigeria and Nigerians . Good names is better than riches they said but in today's Nigeria is the opposite . These type of patriots are what the western countries still enjoys till date and our nowadays leaders are happy to own properties, go for their health care etc in the western countries .

We should reflect on the WHY these type of leadership are absent in our present day Nigeria. In my opinion, it’s because too much power is concentrated in the centre.

If you go to Cross Rivers State today, his legacies are plenty there- rubber and palm oil plantations, reforestation programs, agriculture hubs etc. Unfortunately, the criminals that came after him have messed things up.... Nigeria must get its leadership problem right this time around or we can't achieve anything

Federal regionalism was the instrument that developed Nigeria. The Eastern Region, the Western Region , the Northern Region, and the Midwest Region were all vying to compete and develop their respective region. They were all self sustained Regions and doing very well both in industrialization and agriculture. Nigeria was also blessed with a huge deposit of natural mineral resources, which among these was crude oil. Because of these natural resources, Nigeria became an easy target for criminal international cartel and their sponsors . These international cartels sponsored the Nigerian military and took over one of the fastest competitive growing economies among developing countries at that time. The military brought unitary government, and Nigeria had to deal with tribalism and religious bigotry which was part of the scheme to keep Nigeria divided so that the cartel and their Nigerian helpers could keep exploiting Nigeria . Nigerian growth has been mismanaged since then. Nigerians should wake up and see what has happened to them and their country.
