The protest in Kenya has also shown similarities between the government of Kenya and Nigeria. No soul should be lost when citizens express their disagreement or question government policies. This has shown the disconnect between the government and the people

Well, what you guys don't understand is the Nigerian govt is a different breed from all other African country's govt. They won't hesitate to unalive everyone involved in the protest just so they can keep the status quo as is. All other African leaders have some degree of empathy for it's citizens, not Nigerian leaders. If you're on a mission to end it all then by all means join the protest. But if you love life and would love to continue living, then stay in your lane and hustle for your own money. It's not cowardice, it's called wisdom.

Freedom is not free, I have heard some of our sisters and brothers stating they can’t rise up against their governments because it is risky, until each young people in each country collectively agree those in leadership were voted for to serve not the other way, until you really want change , you lose your fear that is the only time they will lose their power. You just have to make a collective decision on whether your government is serving you or doing things for just their own interest. These countries are for us all not just the top 1%.

We Kenyans simply chose to rise above our tribes, languages,regions of origin,class and any other thing that we are aware of that politicians do use to divide us and got united...we realized that politicians unite in parliament against us and then come to us lying that a certain tribe is the problem... let's unite.... the enemy is not your immediate neighbor because of their tribe... the enemy is your local leadership that chooses to betray you in parliament once elected... they don't want to be accountable... In a weird way, we, Nigeria and Kenya, are echoing the uprisings against leadership from the early 20th century. We are both revolutionary people. There was the Ekumeku War (33-34 years, end of 1800s), Aba Women’s War (1929), & more then the Mau Mau rebellions through 1960 and the Tiv Riots 1960, '64. Somehow, we seem to be inspiring ourselves back and forth. Let's do so again. Things need to change.

The only similarities between the protest in Kenya and Nigeria is that it involved the youths the reasons are completely different. The Endsar protest was directed towards police brutality as if affects the youths and nothing else that show that the protest was for the general well being of every Nigerian. The protest in Kenya was more inclusive of all Kenyans because it is based on an issue that affects everyone but the youths spearheaded the movement to kick against the bill. What has happened in Nigeria since after the endsars is an awareness by the smart to be part of the system by finding their ways into politics. Some youths are fully engaged in government in various levels now and in my opinion that is far better than just being an activist that takes only noise, complaining about what is wrongly only and not finding a way to be part makling the corrections. There are many of such activists in Nigeria that have traded their known profession for activism that is counter productive. Activism is good and encouraged when it serves its purpose and not being biased with hatred, this form activism is also common in Nigeria. Activism consists of efforts to promote, impede, direct or intervene in social, political, economic or environmental reform with the desire to make changes in society toward a perceived greater good. This should be the primary goal and objective of anyone that wishes to engage in activism. I have commented many times that to be an activist that is also interested in politics you must have an open mind to be able to differentiate good from bad and not be be biased and pessimistic. A clear example is what happened in the elections in Senegal few months ago. The youths leading the country today did not get to that position being destructive and arrogant about what was going on in the country, they had a strategy which worked for them. They fought the system which eventually turned around to support them because the demonstrated records of personal efforts. This is what the youths in Nigeria should emulate and not just holding protests that get you no where. If you want to be part of the system join the system so that you can make a difference based on your ideology ability and not just criticizing the system through social media, be productive and you will reap the benefit.

@dondappa1000
@dondappa1000 2 ай бұрын
I hear your points about the ideals of activism and agree. However, Nigeria systems of law and governance are rotten. You can't realistically ask people to join a system that is corrupt because the leaders (not elected) of Nigeria are evil, simple as. Sonko of Senegal founded a party in 2014 because the nation of Senegalese have had peaceful democratic transitions. Nigeria has never had a genuine election...everybody knows this. If a new party in Nigeria started and was campaigning for the right ideas of nation building they will be crushed by elites domestically and internationally. You have to take freedom from oppressors, simple as!
@cinny_
@cinny_ 2 ай бұрын
This is actually good advice as well as a good strategy, but it's more likely to succeed for a system that is not too far gone in decay. However, where the rot goes deep, even the young leaders you elect with a good background thinking they'll work from within either get absorbed into it or crushed by the big powerhouses who don't want a change in status quo.

There are many similarities. The difference is just that their protest started with the unreasonably imposed taxes on them by the government, while Nigeria's own started with the reason of SARS killings and brutality. Kenyans won by relentless and resilient force. They made the death of about 30 protesters not be in vain. Rest in peace to all that died in the cause of making lives better for them, their people and their country. Both in Nigeria, Kenya and other countries who fought for liberation and good governance. Woe on the presidents, politicians and government who wickedly and deliberately suffer their governed and citizens while they enjoy and put bastardize the economy on wasteful and unreasonably ostentatious lifestyle.

The Nigerian protest will only become successful when it is started by the poor, especially by the poor people in the north. The protests by the children of the elites will never succeed because the politicians will use the children of the poor, by giving them #5k, to frustrate the protest. It is only the poor that will fight for themselves eventually. No one else can fight for them. Anyone who has the means should leave the country when they can because when the poor start the problem, they will classify everyone with a means same as the politicians. The flood will not differentiate anyone who can afford 3 square meal from the dirty politicians.

NIGERIA'S protest wasn't strategic, it was more of a jamboree. Kenya's protest was more purpose driven with set agenda. Nigeria needs to learn from Kenya where to channel their protest to.

You people are getting everything wrong....we collected the MPs numbers and shared online so that everyone had their MPs contacts and pleaded with them to reject the finance bill... they refused to listen to the young people... they choose to obey Mr Ruto rather than to listen to the voters... on the day of the debate of the bill in Parliament we protested in Nairobi outside parliament but they choose to vote in favor of the bill... on the day of the demonstration the police were given a notice of the same and they gave us a permit for the demonstration...so actually...all the MPs were aware.... the security apparatus were aware... nobody can feign ignorance of what was going on... they only deliberately chose to do the wrong thing and give a blind eye to the right thing...excuse me Nigerians

Kenya youths protest: That tax increase will increase cost of living. Nigeria youths: Remained complacent and unmoved when fuel subsidy were removed resulting to higher increase in cost of living and more poverty than Kenya. Insecurity and corruption is even more high in Nigeria. This really shows that Nigeria is one of the most peaceful and stable country in Africa.
@samchs222

They are two different things like comparing apples and oranges. Nigeria was borrowing money to pay for subsidies. Money that you and generations to come must pay back. These kind of debts is what makes Nigeria not able to build wealth. For example, Nigerian government can not sell Dangote as much oil he needs which will make us less dependent on buying expensive finished oil products. Protesting removal of fuel subsidy does not make sense because you are ultimately blocking your chances of building wealth. Kenyans protesting paying more taxes is to prevent government making them to build wealth as government takes a Hugh percentage of taxes

Oh. I thought you guys were praising Kenya to the heavens when they held their elections. Now the Kenyans are revolting against the same government, asking for the president to step down. Do Africans understand that democracy and good governance can be mutually exclusive. Besides, protesting about the increased taxes does not make the economic problem go away. The Kenyan people might have won the battle but they definitely haven't won the war.

That’s why we want to win war. The protesting has been going on for weeks now. Right now we are dealing with institutions like churches coz that’s where corruption is boosted most by religious leader, no corrupt politician is allowed to speak and go to church, the military is supporting the citizens, the police are something else.. our constitution allows impeachment of the president or any elected leader, it doesn’t matter if they’re elected or a nominee. Right now we are working on our IEBC, who conduct elections as it needs to be competent then we start the recall of MPs... so we know the win is yet to come!!!

Falz no harm in praising what Eedris did with that song. At least listen to it. By praising acknowledging him you acknowledge yourself. Jagaga was bomb and this Ebilokan is shell. The way you riggled about that question doesn't speak like you acknowledge other's effort apart from yours. Nigeria must survive.

Reading the comments alone tells me what I already know, tribalism being the root course of Nigeria’s problem. Until that unholy, demonic alliance called tribalism is purged from the souls of most Nigerians, it’s a complete waste of time and effort having discussions like this. The carnage that was #Endsars will never happen again in Nigeria, not with these tribalistic mindsets and until we start seeing ourselves as Nigerians first before our tribes, there will be no progress.

My problem is tribal sensitiment and I don't know how this problem can be solved. Imagine Sanusi doing business with Wingwe while the problem of a Hausa youth is the kiosk of an Ibo boy in Kano and a piece of land of an Ibo man in Lagos is the problem of a Yoruba youth. It is a shame, the same is happening in the east and South-south
