Mr Minister, there was just one country that exited ECOWAS since 1975 - Mauritania, over the Protocol on Democracy. Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan, Buhari all heeded this from this example and did not enforce the Protocol. Your boss pushed it, and three countries left. Your analysis of the issue is just dialectical with the truth, Sir

Mr Minister, your claim about DEMOCRACY giving freedom of thought and speech fails to recognize that the AES states are exercising their own freedom of thought in sacking civilian leaders that place their countries' resource on the menu and table of France.

@ucheukponu877 Comment by an empty head lol. ECOWAS rule is clear, if greedy military coup plotters grab government in that country they will cease to be member of ECOWAS. The ECOWAS tried considering the ordinary citizens who will now suffer for greed of only few military criminals, but as it turns out they form their own association now so GOODBYE to backward and archaic military greed. If I were ECOWAS, I will make sure our government never have any dealings with those countries until they will have sense to return to democracy and decide to move forward like other ECOWAS countries.

Why have you got to be so ugleeee, why Nna man?? Britain exited from the European Union, and nobody blamed anybody in any of the European union! Tinubu did his best as ECOWAS chairman and he has no blame in any shape or form!! Those three countries are going to suffer indefinitely, they are all landlocked countries with no access to the coast! Leaving ECOWAS would mean they will have none of the benefits of the ECOWAS member states! But leave Nigeria out of it ! 👊🏾🇳🇬👊🏾🇳🇬!!
@ucheukponu8776 күн бұрын
As a scholar of comparative regionalism, I believe my assessment of Tinubu's failure in keeping ECOWAS as is from 1975 till when he met it as Chairperson is well informed. As much as these countries need ECOWAS, they are also needed by ECOWAS. If not, why did ECOWAS still retain member states privileges for them? Their lands serve as pathways for the West African Gas Pipelines and flights have become more expensive because planes have to divert away from their airspaces. Your comparison with Brexit is totally inapplicable because the issues involved in the EU leading to Brexit are a world apart from the myriad of issues in the ECOWAS leading to the exit of the AED states.

Mr. Minister, i think we should get the history,the content, and the context, correct . Ecowas was not formed as a civil society organization, charged with the task of democratising the sub region. No. It was basically an economic development concept relaying on the citizens' free movements. In fact, the organization was majorly founded by the military head of states. Therefore, democracy wasn't any of the core mandate of ecowas binding articles. We should accept the fact that our president was not properly guided. Diplomacy was hugely and spectacularly mismanaged. The resort to sanctions and military intervention was not the proper and plausible strategy to deploy in addressing a problem involving sovereign countries. Nigerian government becomes disturbingly hubristic. Again, the president, who is from the southern part of Nigeria, might not appreciate the historical nexus between Nigeria and Niger. It was obvious he was not properly briefed. Niger 🇳🇪 was with Nigeria when France was against us during the Biafran war. We should, therefore, resist the temptation of newfound euphoria of this France Nigeria sex up diplomatic misdirection. We need Niger more than Niger needs us.
