Let's try not to focus solely on the negatives and be more open-minded in our listening. Let’s make Nigeria great and not fill comments here with who is out of character. @Creativity3581, thank you for your observation and comment, however, you should note that the intent of his narration was not meant for good. I am an Igbo man from Imo State, If I had an encounter with someone from Imo State that left me a bitter pill and I came to a public space to vent my experience base off of that single encounter. Can a professional, a seasoned journalist and an academia use my statement as a evident to generalize about a people with fact checking the statement and the context? Let me put it in proper context for you, in Igbo land one has to understand how the Igbos live, and the Igbo culture and traditions. Igbos don't sell land to women, therefore women don't own property or houses, with this you can see that Toms Benson reason was already dead on arrival. Secondly, Igbos live in what can be describe as a family compound. Let assume that You your family name is Creativity all the Creativity from 1st generation would live in a huge family compound, no member would live outside this compound. In the event that there are no more lands to build on for the next generations they can then move to either the city or to the closes village or available land for sell. Mind you no family will sell their family compound ( also known as Umunna land) to you even if you guys are from the same kin or village or community. If you understand this concept you begin to understand why Igbos would initially say we don't sell land, but if you know where to buy lands you will not here them say we don't sell land to visitor. I, from family A I cannot buy land from family B especially if it is an Umunna land family B ancestry compound. But I can buy land belonging to a Family B that is their farm land situated outside of the family compound ( family compound is the identity of a given family and you can only be born into that family compound.

@@shaftonconnell7200 Great explanation and background comment. It is culturally nuanced and explains much about the traditions and structures of the Igbo people in their own culture, including land ownership and kinship relationships to ancestral compounds. You raise an excellent point about what professionals, journalists, and scholars should do to keep the facts in perspective and fairness when reporting on an organization or group and I concur 100%!!! Fact-checking everything and non-generalization should be key. I find your explanation about Igbo culture, especially as regards Umunna land, to be very informative and clear. Thanks for explaining and sharing this very useful point of view. Studying and reflecting on Dr. Abati's approach to journalism, I still appreciate how he strives to present the flip side of stories to ensure balance in discussions. This was captured on his perspective on Atiku's candidacy, alongside his remarks on Olabode George as a staunch ally of Wike, (Complex) highlighting his effort to provide nuanced commentary. Journalism in Nigeria is uniquely challenging, given the complex political climate and the deep-seated ethnic biases that influence discourse and advent of social media. Despite these hurdles, platforms like ARISE NEWS continue to set a high standard for quality reporting and balanced analysis. Their dedication to informing the public remains commendable, and for that, they deserve continued gratitude.

@@Chukwudi-n9c See, most of my adult life was lived in SS and SE. He used a word that most people didn't get - "Umunna land". Such land may not even be sold to people outside the family or non-relatives talk less of people from other towns or tribes. Dr. Benson's experience is similar to other people's experience including myself and several others that I know. You can do a small investigation on Bonny Island for example. However, that may not be the case to non-Umunna land or land for commercial/industrial/estate development purposes as that may involve governmemt intervention.

Very disappointed at dr Abati. This just proves that he is not better than the politicians he criticises. Feeling too big to clarify his point is just sad.

You are a special kind of breed, Ojy. Your elegance is not only in your physical beauty but in your carriage, attitude and manners. Thank you! And Dr. Abati, sometimes be humble to admit that you may have made a mistake. Makes are what make us humans and they provide great opportunities for learning whereby we become better in who we are and what we do. There is not need to get turbo-charged and blew your top when your opinion is challenged. An unchallenged opinion is like a hemlock that will eventually kill the opinion.

Whereas if Ayo had been around, he would have played her stabilization role with her God given talent - emotional intelligence. Beyond her sterling analytical skill, and gospel truth, she's good at stabilizing tensions emanating from the show's interactions- both internal and external. Every humans has strength and weaknesses, let's all understand that occasion will come for melt-down, we pick ourselves, clean up, reconcile and move on.

Mr Abati, you should be ashamed of yourself. Despite your education you are not different from Mc Oluomo and they likes. See how you’re reacting over a simple question Ojy asked you. You’re generalizing a whole tribe of becoz of one man’s story that we don’t even know if it’s true. You’re telling Ojy you will come for her as what. You were almost intimidating her. KUDOS to OJY for STILL KEEPING HER COOL AND NOT GIVING IN TO Abati’s Tout behavior. Abati you owe Ojy, your viewers an apology. You’re committing fallacy of hasty generalization.

Can't believe what I just saw from Abati. I bet he will be full of regrets later. It's easier to criticize people but when the table turns we will see ones true color. All he would have simply said is sorry if being misunderstood and logically speaking can one person's experience be used as a general experience. A close friend of mine came to work in Enugu, bought a land and built a duplex. Wike will be smiling. Arrogance at full display. Abati should give a quick public apology or risk loosing viewership. Thank you Orjy for being professional and not allowing Abati to bully you.
