For anyone curious about the floating bridges on the H/0's - the process is the same, and with the supplied toolkit bundle you'll receive a rubber block that slots underneath the bridge to keep it stable while you're restringing and tuning up!

It's probably coming, but a guide on setting action and intonation would be very useful, it took me a while to understand on my own

We definitely are going to make a video on that! Will be in the next few months (after I visit the factory again).

I've had enough in the middle of a video... That's the most complicated headless string change I've seen.

This seems like an unreasonably awkward system. I don't know if that's due to some blocker (like specific patents) preventing the use of a more intuitive approach. The Strandberg approach, for example, seems far more intuitive. Early in the video I assumed that the circular holes near the nut would be where the ball ends would be anchored, and then the strings would be threaded through the bridge and would locked and tuned there, i.e., simply the inverse of a traditional guitar with locking tuners, removing the need for a headstock. Once the ball ends started getting cut off it seemed things were going in the wrong direction. This has definitely put me off a H series. Ease of use is a real priority, especially if the whole pitch of the instrument is that it's forward looking and eschews the compromises in legacy instruments.

Agreed. What an incredibly crappy system for a headless guitar of this price. Makes NO sense.

Very good guide. It's great that you provide such a clear guide:) The process is more complicated than changing strings in my Kiesel headless (it has an Hipshot trem bridge).. Great guitars though.

Very clear video! I'm curious to know, why is the fold on the wound strings required? Is the bridge designed to primarily operate with unwound strings, and the fold makes the wound strings compatible? Just interested to know the product design/engineering side of it
@StevenLamphear2 жыл бұрын
The fold prevents the core of the string from slipping out of the windings. If you want to see what could happen without the fold, cut into the middle of an old wound string, then hold it right at the cut with some needle-nose pliers and pull the rest of the string with your other hand. You'll find yourself pulling out the core as you hold the winding with the pliers.
@nononononegative2 жыл бұрын
nice video mark, thanks for this. when feeding the wound strings into the bridge saddle, does the orientation of the 7 mm unwound portion matter? so, if the guitar is flat on the bench, should the unwound portion be facing the ceiling or the floor, or is it irrelevant?
@AristidesInstruments2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found it helpful! As long as the string is pushed to the back, it shouldn't matter!

Great video. Seems like allot of work to change the strings and lots of places to make mistakes.

I did my first string change on my H/08R a couple nights ago (following the advice of the older string change video on this channel), and ran into one issue that I was hoping was going to be addressed by this updated video: what are we supposed to do with tapered strings? I was putting a D'Addario NYXL .074 in, and it had a few inches of space between the .074-gauge part and the unwound part where it was partially wound/tapered. I ended up cutting it right where the taper ended (and the .074 gauge began), then stripped ~7mm of the winding so I could still do the fold; however, getting this to fit inside the tuning mechanism took a *lot* of work (and would likely not have even been possible with thicker strings), and I barely had enough string left (after cutting off the ball end on the other side) to make it to the string lock at the other end of the guitar. I was eventually able to get it to work, but I definitely didn't feel like I did this correctly, so any official guidance here would be very helpful. Also, as a few others have mentioned, an intonation/action setup guide would be very helpful. I had to learn this "the hard way" (taking apart one of the tuners), but the way it works is so simple that it could easily be explained well in a video.
@AristidesInstruments2 жыл бұрын
I believe I saw your comment answered on facebook, but for anyone else wondering the same thing: On the tapered string, you're actually doing it how we would do it, with the only difference being that we would use the taper (thinner part) to sit on the saddle. This results in a string that moves easier on the saddle and gives better intonation from .074 and upwards. And other set-up videos are definitely on the agenda!
