You're so right about the educational concept of philosophy in the west. I didn't discover Plato, Parminides, Pythagoras, or anything real until a few years ago. Then it's been atonement, negative theology, humility, wonder, and I hope I have the courage to follow the truth wherever it leads.

Something quite interesting about The Maya and maya from the Indian subcontinent is that The Maya were called "sorcerers" because they understood concepts of architecture, irrigation, and agricultural engineering, whereas maya is understood to mean illusion, in that the waking world and our physical bodies are an illusion. The artwork of the first generation of Mayans looks eerily similar to the work from the Indus Valley, with elongated limbs and arcing forms, whereas later generations of Mayan art look more similar to the Aztecs with sturdier, blockier aesthetics. My point being that the word doesn't seem to be coincidentally related to both sorcery and illusion.

Incredible “experience” everything became really obvious, beautiful and deeply deeply awe inspiring. It felt more true than whatever this realm is. Reality was at once a projection from a nexus of all. Time was felt as a spiralling layered hologram of interconnected patterns. I felt peace and it brought a tear to my eye and my skin rippled with goosebumps. I found myself muttering- thank you, thank you I get it now everything is complete and is for a reason. Never got over it.

Aristotle is the most dry thinker I’ve ever read, pure left brain hemisphere, linear logics where everything is just a sorting into different categories. A mercurian process of naming and thinking that one have caught the immanent spirit of something by doing so. Left brain wants control, right brain wants flow. Left brain is linear while right brain is cyclical. Aristotle himself said that the difference between physics and poetics is that physics describes what is actual while poetics describes what’s potential (and I prefer the potential, which is Heraclitus, Nietzsche and similar thinkers, and this is what I consider philosophy to be, a preference of perspective). Studying philosophy is like reading someone elses thoughts, and when you find a thinker you resonate with you can gain a quick advancing of your own thinking process. For me truth is personal and it is about uniting your brain hemispheres, making your Jupiter and Mercury communicate with each other.

Great presentation on magic Ken. The few works of Aristotle that I've read demonstrated to me that he understood how to apply magic in an attempt to derive an understanding of the universe. It is little wonder that the church would want to destroy the teachings by which people would be liberated from the constraining dogma, meditation, iconography, and conjuring of their IP and the profits and power they derive from it.

I am so grateful for these philosophical videos. They are so enriching! I did take the types of "philosophy" classes you describe and I held a very nihilistic worldview after the experience. I also studied art because I love beauty and have some talent in that department. It was all critical theory driven and extremely demoralizing. It took me years of life experience to gradually shed my nihilism and materialism. I hope young people interested in these topics are finding your work and avoiding the traps I fell into! Wasn't the works of Aristotle found stuffed in a root cellar by a family friend of Arius Copernicus Piso? How much of his works actually survived in a dark, damp cellar? Aristotle was an unknown in Roman times until his works were finally published by the Atomist/Materialist Piso family.

A few months ago, I was sitting on a bench made of logs, just trying to be there, you know, to be a "witness," according to my interpretation of what I've read from your translations on the Buddha. I think I kind of perceived that connection... I don't mean it literally, of course, but I believe I experienced a wider understanding of the concept of the "Absolute." At the same time, an image came to my mind of some sort of very uncolored string that is present in everything. I wanted to use the word "connected," but it doesn't really represent what I want to say. Well, I'm not really going anywhere with this; I just felt like sharing that.
