So this is a LPO - location, person, object list. In programming terms it’s a known as a multi-dimentional array or 3-dimensional array. My question is can I use the bestiary I created as a peg list for the P or is it better to use people?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
@@nuneza73 "Better" is really something each person needs to find through experimentation. If information science is correct, there's a downward pressure on just how many possible variations that are available. Ultimately, I've identified over 30 encoding paradigms, but there's some recursion amongst them, so the exact number is up to the user. Many of us default to perhaps 3-5 of them or less as the main encoding parameters, diving into the others only when needed.

Amazing video. After using Obsidian for some time as a note-taking tool, I've become fascinated by its bi-directional note-taking strategy. Your video has inspired me to construct a memory palace that mirrors this approach, but uses hashtag topics rather than the alphabet. Like a hashtag system for thoughts, I plan to create a memory palace for each of my primary areas of interest and toss ideas into them to discover their interconnections. But i believe for something like this to function you would need to have a vast vocabulary already represented symbolically; as that would make it possible to detect connections that were previously invisible. I wonder what you think of this kind of approach Anthony
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
In some sense, that's what we mnemonists are doing: developing a "Magnetic" vocabulary that works like hashtags or hyperlinks. But in this case, it's not merely a vocabulary of words. It's a multi-sensory vocabulary that includes concepts for which there isn't even a language. This is what I mean by the "luminous detail," which will come up again in part two: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKeWiIaGZstnr5I The best part is that it does more than make it possible to detect deep connections. It starts to just bring the connections to you without having to do anything. This is what I call in the MMM Masterclass the "Rhizomatic Effect."

This is really great Anthony, and I absolutely love the concept but I believe that since stories (which we can create ourselves with AI now) can also create strong and familiar associations with the places, figures, and objects that we use in them, we can actually use any archetypes for the nuclear alphabet that we desire no matter how unfamiliar it may seem to us at first. I could be wrong about this since I don’t have much experience with memory palaces yet but I do believe symbols and archetypes are very powerful in imprinting vibrational energies and meanings into our subconscious mind since the language of the subconscious mind is stories archetypes and symbols. For this reason, I believe that it is important that we “carefully” choose the archetypes and symbols that we use in our nuclear alphabet or memory palaces for that matter so that they resonate with empowering, loving, wise, and healthy energies for our personal well being because otherwise I believe we could get sick or ill without really knowing why. I believe this from a Jungian, Shamanic, and Platonic Perspective in the sense the “World of Forms”, “The Spirit World” “The World of Archetypes” “The Imagination” “The Collective Unconscious” are all concepts relating to the realities that exist beyond our physical matter reality yet are not only intricately woven into our physical matter reality but are also the “dynamic blueprint” for the manifestation of the things that happen in our physical matter reality in our health and in other areas and events in our lives. This is part of the reason why I believe Narrative Magic such as Hyper Sigils can be so powerful in manifesting profound changes in our reality. I choose to create a Nuclear Alphabet that reflects this understanding that I have and I will use Chat GPT to help me with all of it! Writing is so tedious these days and we have AI technology now to help us make memory palaces that I believe can be Even More magnetic than how you teach and also help us create them much more quickly! 😁🙌🏼

Thanks so much for this and for your support as always. My main new insight is that more live teaching of memory is the key, both one-on-one and as a group. Is there any relevance to the fact that aristotle's given example had the words linked by some sort of common quality (perhaps using his 'categories'). For instance, milk shares the quality of white, white might be seen as connected to air (not the sky), air with it's humidity is similar to wet, and wet is the greek temperamental classification of autumn (wet/cold). Is this how one creates one order versus another order? And also is this what allows one to move forward and backwards, since they have a relation to each of the words on each side?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
Yes, category is an important part of ars combinatoria and it's likely Aristotle influenced it. I'm not sure we could 100% link it to him because he's not alone in using category as a philosopher. If anything, he and Plato would have been influenced in using it as a mental/philosophical tool from the Pre-Socratics.
@henryspragge Жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I see, that makes sense. Thank you

My pleasure. I should add that it's quite possible they also communed with philosophers from other traditions as well. Category is also an important concept in the Vedas, for example.

What do you think about, instead of creating 1 associative image for each number from 0 to 99, you create 2 images for the numbers 0 to 9, a creature for the tens and an object for the singles. For example the number 1 is both a duck and a magic wand and 2 is both a walrus and a stereo. So 12 makes a duck listening to a stereo and 21 makes a walrus using a magic wand. Now you only have to memorize 20 images, or is there too much risk for confusion?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM8 ай бұрын
Your idea is reflected in Fludd but never seems to have caught on compared to the standard 00-99 PAO. Consonant category in this caae creates a sound aid that avoids visual duplicity.

Hi Anthony, a question if you don't mind. While watching the video, I assumed that each person, place, and object would start with the letter we're working with. Your example seemed to start that way (person= Axl) but then the place for Axl was (b=bedroom). Is only the person linked to the letter?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
I'm very sorry. Which part made it seem that Axl was connected to a bedroom? The written sheet was just an example of the character part, but no particular location was shown. I'll strive to make this clearer in the second video in this series, but for now, the goal is to have Person, Action, Object setup per letter and I haven't yet talked about alphabetically encoded Memory Palaces as such. This was just hinting at how alphabets can be distributed within them. Until the next video in this series emerges, does this response help in any way?

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM No worries! After you mentioned Axl, you said something to the effect "now think of a location where you heard G n R. Ah yes, now I see what you mean. That doesn't have to be a bedroom or a stadium or any place that starts with A. At least not in the beginning. @AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
If you're pressed for time, then I would suggest diving directly into the full program. Most people can complete the core training in 2-5 hours. This is not my opinion, but the data that I’ve received over the years from our most successful course participants. The core training involves: 1. The Start Here page (video 2 is especially important) 2. The Masterplan - including the MP3s at the end for the time recommended 3. The Exercises page 4. The Study guide for what to complete next based on your goals 5. The FAQ page There are other courses to complete, and each one requires about 2 hours or so. In terms of daily practice, you really don’t need more than 15 minutes, and not even daily. But it's different for learning goals and everything depends on how fast you want to progress. I passed level III in Mandarin (without completing levels I and II) in just 15 minutes a day of acquiring vocab and phrases, for example. The rest is just making sure to hear and speak the language as often as possible. Others may need more time for a case example like this, but it's hard to imagine getting anywhere with less time. Hope this helps!

I am sort of confused by this video. Does the nuclear alphabet represent the series of stations in a memory palace/memory wheel? Which you can change the order of during recall? I am not familiar with Aristotle or music so I just wanted to confirm.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
Each station can represent a number or not. I believe Aristotle probably had both a letter and a number bidirectionally and it was more common back them to know t the number of a letter of the alphabet automatically. I don’t know that you would ever want to change the order during recall, except to help speed the passage into long term memory. When recalling memorized information, the point of these techniques is direct access, not fiddling around with Memory Palaces. Please see the later video in this seres on spaced repetition for more on that. 🙏

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM means mind palace will not be a problem in my practice of enquiry? Is it Anthony?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
No, that's not what I'm saying. No one can predict the future, so what I'm suggesting is that you equip yourselves with tools that help you navigate the unknown should things you don't want to happen. This is a realistic approach that is often scrubbed out of spiritual teachings by charlatans. But if you study "real deal" teachers of self-inquiry, what I'm saying is what they are usually teaching. They are less popular because the market prefers the fake to the real. Focus on the real and the realistic and you will avoid leading yourself into the prisons you're trying to avoid. Does this way of looking at things help you out?

@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
Sorry that you are confused. Did you happen to take notes? There are several examples of how it works in the video. Indeed, although mitochondria isn't in the video as an example, something relatively close to this word is covered. Note also that the video includes a detailed homework exercise. Without completing such exercises, it would have been very difficult for me to learn these techniques. I had to come up with exercises for myself based on the ancient memory books I was reading because the memory competitor teachings only work for short term outcomes. But if you find what I'm saying not effective, you may want to go through their materials first, then come to what I'm talking about for more robust applications. The same suggestion (actually, it's a kind law) applies: Take notes, take action and you will get results. And it's possible multiple readings, viewings may be necessary. Heck, I reread Aristotle just to make this video and I noticed things I hadn't noticed the first time. And that's what advanced learning is all about. Does this way of looking at things help you out?

You can memorize those representations. Or you can use the Magnetic Memory Method, which makes memorizing our mnemonic tools completely unnecessary. Even better: by having the kind of learning goal I suggest, the systems because self-developing and self-reinforcing due to basing our choices on what is already in memory. @AnthonyMetivierMMM7 ай бұрын
Without a stated learning goal so you can start to experiment with applying, this struggle may continue. I don't see a stated learning goal yet in our conversation thread so far. If for any reason, you'd rather keep your learning goal private, self-study will be even more important than usual. It is more than possible to figure this out on your own. But explaining it more explicitly than I already have in many books, courses and countless free videos does require more information from some people. I'm not sure why reality works in such a way that some people instantly understand this and why some do not, but that's the way it seems to work. My comments and email inbox and live classes are packed with this strange division each and every day, along with those who teach music, chess, martial arts, debate, etc. It's just the way it goes. Feel free to supply more information and I'll do all I can to explain this further. But the goal is what you latch onto and that's why and how the alphabetical method works. I have seen nothing that is an exception to this rule, not even the goal of memorizing abstract cloud patterns when I was the commentator at the 2023 Pan American Open Memory Competition.

You could make ANKI decks from this after creating it. Have a picture on the front and place, figure, and object on the back.

One could do that, but it would not be using the art of memory.

Definitely use all things that work. I can only encourage radical honesty that these things are indeed working. Many who come to me don't actually have goals based on vision, so activity winds up being confused with accomplishment. But when an individual is genuinely happy with their accomplishment, then by all means, Anki and graphics of every kind. I never mean to make the historical fallacy that things were somehow "better" before technology. We would only be remiss to miss the old St. Hugh of Victor's ancient and bookish reminder that omnium expetendorum prima est sapientia. Important and worth remember in all times. (So far)
@HasturYellowSign Жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I agree that without a stated goal using an ANKI deck isn’t very useful. You won’t enjoy it which is the death knell for such tools. Or even if you do the technique the pre-tech way with a schedule and large blank notecards that you draw on. But for things like an alphabet, the 12 Olympians, et al. It’s helpful as long as you are the one creating the deck, sourcing the pictures, et al. Too many people try and use pre-made decks which have zero personal investment.

Yes, personal investment is key. Or better said, personalization as investment and variety. This is what the science of active recall shows us.

For 15-20 random words, I'd suggest learning a traditional Memory Palace and start with one at a time. If this is for a memory competition, the IAMWMC has free software you can train with, though the word pool does get repetitive fast.

sir...how to memorize a new mind palace?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this question, Talha. Overall, I teach the Memory Palace technique. It is called this because the locations are *already* in memory. I strongly believe that memorizing a location for use as a Mind Palace is missing the point of this particular skill. But if you wanted to do that, you could pay special attention to the location and add associations that help you remember it. Usually, just paying more attention to space helps. Again, however, this is generally adding an unnecessary step. People typically have countless locations they could be using, and there are exercises that help them discover this wealth. Please let me now if you have any further questions around this.

Believe me one thing.Its something that even Aristotel won't tell you that he is alive.You can't compare the methods of learning and memorizing now and then. Now the brain rests with the wealth of the Internet. The more that wealth and offer comes to the brain, the less willing it is to remember the boring black and white lines that make up the sentences and words that it needs to let's remember.

If Aristotle was alive now, wouldn't he ask you to justify the idea that black and white lines are boring? Boring to whom? The person who dares to speak for the entire species?

How can you make such a long video, and not explain clearly just simply how to do this? I really care about this and want to learn, but I re watch every 15 seconds over and over 5 times, and try to understand what did I miss because the examples are not clear and straight forward. Like "you do A, then B, then C, link to D, go over to E, done". I was replaying this video for almost an hour, trying to find where did I miss where you explain how exactly step by step to make these places in the memory palace reference other places, with a simple clear example... so I can just go "ok, and go do it and practice".. instead I'm frustrated trying to figure out did you even explain it, and if you did, where... I apologize for being so critical, I just feel I didn't find the actual action steps I was trying hard to find here.

Thanks for your questions. A few answers: 1) I can make content like this because I’ve built an audience familiar with the Memory Palace technique and who appreciate this kind of analysis. I believe you’ll find that other comments bear this observation out - these come from people who like you and I care about this tradition. 2) There are specific steps that I have suggested in this video. I have heard from many people via email who have completed them. I apologize if you missed them. Over hundreds of videos, and after nearly a decade of teaching at three universities in three countries and two languages, I have no explanation for why the steps are clear and evident to some and not to others. To my knowledge, pedagogy has never solved this problem. I’m aware of the literature about it and await some theorist to suggest something that makes a difference. All I can suggest is that people look at my 700+ videos on this channel and understand that it’s not for a lack of trying on my part. I wish you great success and if you follow the steps in this and my other videos, I’d love to see your homework. I receive homework from people every single day and share it in many of my videos. 🙏

Anthony, why don't you learn a programming language(whether it is JavaScript or Java) and tell us about your learning experience?

What would be more helpful is people learning to use mnemonics and then applying it to their desired learning outcome. Me doing something I'm not interested in would be a waste, project poor energy and violate the beauty of the mnemonic tradition. So I would humbly suggest just buckling down and learning the techniques. Then apply them yourself to learning a programming language, and if you feel called to do so, start your own channel all about it. Doesn't that sound like a more authentic and genuine path to helping people interested in programming?

Can you please write a longer comment explaining why specifically a shorter video would help you?
@theeng1982 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your efforts but most the videos have a simple idea that can be explained in 5 minutes for example, this will encourage us to watch the videos and this will increase your number viewers. You can make two versions of the same idea long video and shorter less than (5 minutes). Thank you
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
I humbly request you to prove that what I'm saying can be explained in five minutes. If you write or revise a script that adequately describes the concept, I'll consider filming it. Otherwise, I would suggest you consider this: There are even people who have complained that my 5 minute videos are too long. No amount of effort on my part will ever make this go away. So the faster and ultimately more ethically honest thing to talk about is what specifically you would like to learn. If that thing can be learned in five minutes, then chances are it already exists in a five minute format. Personally, I'm aware of precisely nothing worth learning that can be learned in five minutes. Quite the opposite, in fact. But I'm willing to reconsider, so anxiously await your five minute revision of this video and the clear and crisp condensation of the multiple moving parts this video successfully expressed for many other people. Please be sure to include all of the critical exercises in the five minute script, noting that you're welcome to spend the time not revising the script and putting your attention towards completing the exercises instead. Either path will be interesting, though I predict both of them will cause you reconsider your claim that any of this can be explained in five minutes. Thanks in the meantime for your suggestion and I look forward to your reply.

It could work, but could also lead to a pronunciation error if not later modified. I’ll have to ask one of my friends who specializes in the language for what pronunciation would be most common. Tom Cruise sipping might be closer. 🙏

Anthony, with all due respect (and I do respect you), I don’t feel your response here was worthy of you. Sure, the word “nuclear” has been mispronounced for decades, and there are some who now defend the mispronunciation as a viable alternative. Still, the vast majority of linguists/grammarians don’t yet agree with that shift. So it doesn’t seem unreasonable that someone would point it out, especially since the word is used frequently in this presentation. But rather than acknowledging your nonstandard usage, you struck back at the commentator, which seems wholly contrary to the spirit you demonstrate in so many videos.
@AnthonyMetivierMMM Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Actually, it's the same spirit in my videos that challenges the notion of "correct pronunciation." My usage is neither standard, nor non-standard, and it just happens to be the case that this video itself raises the pronunciation issue. Would it have been any better if I'd invited him on my podcast for Phil to say whatever he has to say about the "correct" pronunciation of this word? Then I in turn could monitor each and every syllable that comes out of his mouth, listening like a hawk for the opportunity to score a meaningless point? No, satire, dear Robert, has a place, it is in my personality and it is most certainly not beneath me. Most especially when this video made so clear how such comments about pronunciation tend to be treated.
