Very spacious sewing area! You are very organized! I love natural sunlight, it makes the room very comforting and cheerful. I had an open sewing room at one time and used oriental style floor screens to create my sewing sanctuary. Our sewing rooms are a great place to retreat and be creative. I can't wait to see your future sewing makes. Happy sewing!

Thank you Patricia, I love it too, and I am so happy that I have a partner that recognizes how important this space is for me. We were actually considering using screens rather than the gate, but I would have needed 18 feet of them! I think if I had used another room, that would have been the route I went because I find them to be more aesthetically pleasing. I am hoping good things come from this room!

The short Ikea shelves would give you storage and a barrier for the dogo. And they won't block the light. Love your room!

I had considered it, but his face is covered in slime around the clock and if I put anything on shelves, he would put his face on it and slime it, so I have to veto that idea. The drool is serious, and it is a constant struggle. So, anything that could be near his face has to be easy to wipe.

It always feels great to have your sewing room organized! Yours looks so bright and cheerful-even with the darker walls. I think it’s the open space and the great lighting, plus the pretty colors from your folded fabrics and your cheerful sewing notion boxes. You will get spoiled with all of that Arizona sunshine! I like the way you organized your patterns into styles. I’ve been wondering exactly how to do mine. Great ideas. Thanks for sharing with us. 🌼🌺🎈

Some people do the whole index thing by pattern company and number with a separate binder that just has the picture. Kind of like a card catalog, but that seems like something I would definitely fail to keep up with,lol! I buy way too many patters for that not to end in disaster. This way works for me!

Thanks Sally! Keeping things drool and fur free is a constant battle in this house. I am in favor of making the dog an outside dog, but Tim wont let me, so he has to put up fences and deal with my frequent meltdowns about the dog being gross. Its a tradeoff, I guess.

WOW! Tim is a keeper for “assigning” the big room for your use! That would never happen in my house
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
Tim and I are pretty terrible at home decorating, so the byproduct of that is a lack of a whole house of furniture. Also, he was in charge of setting up the living room and I think he accidentally put our living room stuff in a dining room. So, we had three rooms in the house with nothing really to go in them, lol. Basically, this happened because we didn't follow any rules about how to make a house look proper, and we dont care to spend money on furniture when there are fun adventures to be had instead. Basically, we are ridiculous.
@TheSliverleaf5 жыл бұрын
What an amazing space for you to create in and how sweet he let you have it ALL. He's a keeper 🤣. Should you run out of space, you could maybe take your white units and put one on each side of the opening into the room. This would give the feel of a wall but still very open feeling and then your gate would not have to reach so far. This then could free up the wall to up your apothecary unit in the room and really play up that gorgeous table your dad made you. Not sure if pup-meister would still drool on your open sides but something just in case. Can't wait to see all the goodness that will be come from you. Have a fabulous day!
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
If the dog's face can touch it, there will be slime. It is a sad truth when you live with a Newfoundland. Also, there are giant hair tumbleweeds that still make their way in there, its a constant battle with cleaning. Thats why my last sewing room was upstairs so he couldnt get to it. If I didnt have him, i would definitely use the cubes as a partition!

Love having lots of light for the sewing area! My sewing space is also next to some pretty large windows and the only word of caution I would offer is that I did have to put a blackout curtain in front of where I keep my fabric. The light will cause fading pretty quickly to your fabrics - which is a heartbreaking thing to find (from personal experience!)
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын

What amazing light you have in your new space! I like the open drawers for the patterns, where you can easily see them and sort through for what you want. Do you refer to your Threads Magazine very often? What are your local fabric stores? Is there a good selection of them or will you be shopping more online? I would think that part of the country there would be a large quilting selection (cottons) but maybe not apparel fabrics?
@SewingatMidnight5 жыл бұрын
I don't refer to my threads as much as I should, but I have them there as a reference and I have read them all cover to cover. So what happens is, I will read something in them, and remember it and then when the moment where I could use that info, I will go look it up online. As far as fabric stores, my local Joanns is much bigger and better than it was at my last place, they have a lot more apparel fabrics, but as usual, they are a bit pricey for the quality so I am still leaning toward online shopping, but honestly I haven't bought any new fabric online since December! I went on the little trip with my mom and that was it for this year. I am going today to check out SAS I think, which is a local store I have heard great things about. When I look up fabric stores, it is mostly quilting cottons, for sure.

My dog is too lazy to even bother, but on the off chance that he did manage to get in there, he leaves slime trails of drool all over everything, so its just not worth it. He wouldnt harm any of my stuff because he isnt really a chewer, but the constant washing of drool marks is a huge time suck.
