Nice clear oil change video. I like the way you arranged all the small bits from the filter housing, it makes so much easier putting the parts back. Just one minor suggestion if I may, it's advisable to immerse/soak the new filter in new oil before inserting in the housing. Cheers, Peter

Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't worried about charging the filter since I rotated the oil pump so many times to prime it.

While replacing the oil filter, you just roll that new oil filter in pure unused engine oil.It is one of the best trick used by indian bullet mechanics 🧰😎😎, it increases the efficiency of engine parts🥰LOVE FROM INDIA 🇮🇳

Good video, thanks. Just one thing, throughout the procedure you have background noise of an idling engine. Think you should make it clear that this is not the engine being worked on !

Arizona RE Your right about great little bikes! Its a 2003 500cc Sixty 5 Which I bought recently its the bike with the iron engine but 5 speed gearbox and left foot gear change this is a UK market one I dont know if this model got to the US. Thanks again for a well explained and very useful video I like the written instructions cos you can stop it and read at your leisure.

Arizona RE yes, I just bought a really low mileage 2007 Bullet and have been putting a few videos of it on my channel. But, it really is a way different bike than the newer 500’s which most of the videos are geared for. I have Snidal’s manual but it’s not laid out as good as anything near like what you posted on your videos! Great job again and thanks!!!

Arizona, thought I'd tighten up a bit since last post, with the addition of a fresh top end & an alloy cyl. upgrade with H/V oil pumps, I've removed the oil filter cavity SPACER. All seems to be well with "Ollie". After a sound running in, a couple of oil changes & a carb. rejet, now runs much cooler...plus peace of mind that the volume reducing spacer wont be bitin my a** later.

That's a great video, & thank you for the time & effort to produce it, very helpful. The thought of a dry start up is pretty creepy, d'ya spoze a loose banjo bolt with a few minutes of decompressed turnovers might produce some bottom to top oil circulation? R.Tillery
@ArizonaRE
@ArizonaRE 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliments! That sounds reasonable to me that it would circulate the oil. I squirted some in the valve adjustment access and kicked it over a bunch with the decomp open and ignition off. Does it help? I don't know for sure, but I think as long as you aren't revving the engine right when you start it after an oil change you should be fine either way.

Hi Arazona, On re watching your vid I noticed you don't pre soak thenew oil filter element in fresh oil before fitting. I was always told that it is advisable to do this to lessen the time the engine may be running until the oil has circulated. What is your opinion on this? Cheers
@ArizonaRE
@ArizonaRE 8 жыл бұрын
I do not presoak the filter. I did prime the engine using the kickstart quite a bit before trying to start the engine. That should have worked up the oil pump and circulated the oil well enough.
@kamalmander3996

is it mandatory to put some oil in valve adjustment cover or you can just skip it?
@ArizonaRE

It is not mandatory at all. In reality, if you use the kicker with the compression release open and the ignition off, you will pump oil throughout the engine.

I'm always puzzled why, when going to all that trouble to clean and replace screens and filters then put nice clean oil in, the timing case is left undrained keeping all that dirty and possibly contaminated oil in there to be mixed with the clean stuff?? Is it difficult to drain the timing case to have 100% fresh oil? Dave
@ArizonaRE
@ArizonaRE 8 жыл бұрын
Hi David, thanks for watching and commenting. Some oil remains in the bottom of the timing cover, below the level of the quill bolt. I typically don't worry about it because draining it requires removing the timing cover. With relatively frequent oil changes, the small amount of dirty oil recycled is a very minimal issue. Removing the timing cover is fairly complicated (and labor intensive) with internal shims and spacers that can be lost or put back wrong, and probably has more risk than a small amount of recycled dirty oil. For the average person just doing a regular interval oil change I don't believe it is necessary. Certainly for a first service, or subsequent service that requires that inspection one may want to check the worm gear or address some other issue removing that cover would be reasonable.

Sure thang, I went ahead & changed the oil & filter on my baby, with more confidence after see'in the video. But, I installed that oil filter spacer from N'Field Gear(# Z91099), with that spacer & 25-35 decomp. turnovers, 5-10 seconds of low idle & I got a few air bubbles & fresh clean oil dribbling outta both banjo bolts. My old filter came out in wads & pieces, so I'm sure she's happy with the maint. I know I am. Thanks Again, R.Tillery

Is that the spacer that sort of occupies the cavity to displace the oil capacity to other chambers?
@r.tillery575
@r.tillery575 10 жыл бұрын
Arizona RE Oh, yeah , it takes up some space in the filter cavity, slides right over the center stud & into the middle of the filter, plenty of fluid room between it & the filter, "ideally", the shorter time it takes to fill the cavity, the sooner the oil can get to the bottom end...& top end. I can't really see it makin a lotta difference being as small as it is but, it "might" just help keep that filter in one piece till the next service. I gotta feelin that last filter I pulled outta there had been in there for a LOT longer than it needed to be.
@aloudpipesaveslives
@aloudpipesaveslives 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Russell how much room do you have for oil between the adapter and filter wall mine seems to be about an 8th" I was wondering about cold oil getting through?
@ArizonaRE
@ArizonaRE 10 жыл бұрын
Something to consider, I know it isn't much, but thinking about displacing the over all amount of oil may not be a great idea. I understand the logic here, to get the oil to sit in a different location, but also as a result you'll be using slightly less volume. Just food for thought.
@r.tillery575
@r.tillery575 10 жыл бұрын
aloudpipesaveslives Well, there wasn't much, kinda snug fit stuffin the spacer up inside the filter, but I don't recall any clearance issues installin the filter into the cavity. I'll pay more attention changing it next time, I may just do that today.

Hi, Have you used the Motul 300v Factory Line 15W-50 Fully.synthetic.in your bullet engine? Will it work? Do you recommend it?...Royal Enfield now recommends 15W-50 - 2.5 litres of oil in theirr new UCE all Aluminium engines.
@ArizonaRE
@ArizonaRE 8 жыл бұрын
I use Motul in my other bikes, it is a great product. On my older Iron Barrel, I use Rotella or whatever I can get cheap. I change the oil often enough on this bike that I don't worry about getting synthetic. Your UCE is more like my Bonneville. For that I use Motul.

Yes, I demonstrated that in the oil change video, the oil pump will move the oil before you start it if you leave the key off, open the decompressor, and crank the kickstand for several minutes to move hte oil around. Hope that helps :-)

Why you out magnets on plugs ... please tell me what is the use of that
@ArizonaRE
@ArizonaRE 10 жыл бұрын
The magnets are there to help catch any bits of metal that may be in the oil. They will catch the tiny pieces of metal on the drain plug, so when you remove the plugs, you also remove the tiny bits of metal. A well broken-in, well maintained, and well performing motorcycle shouldn't be making many metal shavings or pieces, this is just for my piece of mind.

Hard to say, but is likely a lean condition as these carbs are set lean from the factory. That being said, a whole host of things could cause overheating. Oil flow and quality, timing, riding too fast, they all play a part as well.
