Arjan Brass (Delft, 11 juni 1951 - Nieuwegein, 28 december 2007) was a Dutch singer and pianist. His biggest hit was 'Leonie' charted in 1976. The single reached #20 in the Dutch Top 40 in January 1977.

I only discovered after almost 60 years that the singer is a fellow countryman. Of all the Dutch artists who have ever had a hit, this man is probably the most unknown and most forgotten, even in his own country. You hardly ever hear this beautiful song that I loved as an 11-year-old child.

Wonder why a Dutch singer on Dutch tv is singing in English. Not a bad tune. Might have had success in US with right marketing

I guess recording in English increases the chances of international success especially in the coveted American market. Still seems strange to me that they would give up on the homegrown culture to such a degree. I love Holland by the way. Great place.

As you should know the English/American language is leading in the international pop scene to pave the way to international recognition and success. Have you ever seen ABBA singing in the Swedish language on Swedish TV? The song Leonie was a top twenty hit in the Netherlands, became a million seller in Indonesia and a number one hit in Brasil. This had never happened if Arjan had sung the song in Dutch.
