Definitely not a master, so many mistakes, contours for example, or that the objects are separated and not overlapping but I really appreciate your input though! Thank you very much Pablo!!

Thank you John I appreciate it! Just a little bit of forest topsoil, semi composted abies needles, pieces of cones and bark. They have lots of mycorrhizae and usually that helps a lot! Cheers!

Can you explain why with conifers/pines you should grow the roots as a mound instead of try to create a flat root surface like with deciduous etc?
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai 8 ай бұрын
@W9SL9Y definitely! Initially, conifers tend to grow deeper root systems as they grow mostly on drier, poor rocky soils. So aesthetically, nature has this difference in nebari look. Then, in bonsai, the way that you create great taper in conifers and mostly pines, is to always set the roots on mounds and as the nebari gradually matures, you gradually expose part of it in every future repotting. So every 2 - 3 years the tree sits just a little bit higher and the nebari gets a bit wider. After 50 years or so, you end up with huge, mature nebari, with rough bark, that barely fit the pot. Then you have to move the tree into bigger pot. That is the technique until the tree's death. Can you do this into maples as well? Well, yeah and Japanese definitely do that, but at a point you will settle with flat shallow roots, as this is what trees do in nature. Cheers!
