Speechless. It's amazing how people can find beauty in unfamiliar places. This was a lovely walk to watch, deserves more views!!

I think I was about 12 when I first learned about Arkhangelsk. A big city so far north and so far from foreign ports, founded long ago on the edge of the earth. I pictured Russians as a brave and strong people to create another window on the sea that survives and thrives to this day. One day, I should like to visit this accomplishment.

A dear friend of mine grew up in A. - very interesting to see this large Arctic city, one of the most northerly major cities in the world.

You need to be so tough mentally to live in an environment like this. Few people anywhere in the west could handle it besides people living in Northern Canada and Alaska. But it's not just the cold, it's the short or non-existent daylight in the winter and the gloomy buildings and atmosphere. Then due to the extreme temperatures people are forced to wear 3 layers of clothing and scarves over their faces and hoods up as they huddle quickly from A to B, so you kind of lose a sense of personality with the people you see on the street there. It's such a truly fascinating environment, and it's a credit to the Russian people who keep the country running like clockwork despite facing this harsh climate everyday.
