Catapult also ruined recruitment when she was added 2 years ago, because prior to that AoE+Sniper tags would give you Shirayuki i.e. a gold cert guaranteed. Same goes for Popukar and Spot who made getting the guaranteed 4 stars through AoE Guard/Melee and Healing+Defender/Defense - Estelle and Gummy- impossible. Im grateful that they stopped adding new 3stars to recruitment, its already a grueling enough process with the lack of good tags appearing

I don't think that's how recruitment works? The likelihood of getting a combination of tags is based on the minimum rarity of Operator you can get from it. You being guaranteed a 4-star is calculated separately to the actual specific tags you get. Catapult being added doesn't decrease your probability of getting a 4-star.

@@psl6145 Maybe I'm just looking through rose tinted glasses but I'm pretty sure I got a lot more guaranteed 4 star tag combinations back before the new 3 stars were introduced. That said, I also think I get more random 4 stars now off of putting no tags, so make of that what you will. Catapult was actually not the addition that annoyed me the most, it was Popukar. Cutting off 2 guaranteed 4 star combinations and blocking off the only method to reliably get Estelle was kinda an oof move. I'm sure every player eventually gets an Estelle still, but if you were a day one player, you could pretty much guarantee a max pot Estelle within 1 month of recruiting even if you were unlucky. Now it's getting lucky to obtain a pot 1 Estelle in that time. The other thing about Popukar that made me convinced she was added to make Estelle rarer is just... 3 star... aoe guard... Aoe guards are known for only really shining at E2 because of the extra block they get. So adding a 3 star when there were more valuable 3 star archetypes to fill was kinda a ??? Like, don't get me wrong, I think a lot of people make good use of Popukar for 3 star only runs where your options are more limited, but I still occasionally use Kroos, Cardigan, Steward, Midnight, and some others even in my main roster. I don't use Popukar. And we STILL don't have a 3 star aoe healer. It just so happens that making an aoe healer wouldn't block any recruitment tag combinations for 4 star. But I guess the existence of Midnight is evidence against this theory. He's the only 3 star that was added that doesn't intercept any 4 star's tag combos, but even one is probably enough to indicate that wasn't all that was going into their decision making.

You make an interesting point about Catapult's EN recruitment dialogue length, which is actually unique to the global server based on my experience playing the Japanese client. It gives the perception of being much slower even though the text speed is the same due to how other languages tend to be more 'meaning dense' through having less letters to show, so EN has been given an existential debuff because the developers probably didn't realize how scrolling text ends up working very differently in a language-specific context they probably don't spend hours obsessing over like certain horse fans.

The only thing I dislike about Catapult is her long Onboard line and how she removed the guaranteed Shirayuki potential through the Sniper + AOE tag (but at least it's still possible to get her through other guaranteed 4 stars tags like Sniper + Slow and AOE + Slow). As a character, I never hated her at all actually.

I’ve actually liked Catapult since the beginning of the game, and I have read through her files. She’s actually one of the 3 stars I’m hoping to get an alter in the future. Her records show that though she may be very hard headed, she does care about the people around her, and she has her own way of expressing herself. Now an operator that deserves some positive attention from both the community AND HG is Savage. My poor girl so neglected.

what a nice video. i actually never noticed the length of catapult’s recruitment line since i always use tags and it’s rare that i’ll pick a set that would give me her. popukar, though… well. at least her voice is cute? my recommendation in this spirit is for memetic aosta dislikers (and everybody, really) to read boundless wilds, the aosta-broca-chiave side story where they’re out in the desert talking about the impermanence of life. sincerely my favorite piece of writing in arknights, piss jokes included.

I never disliked Bena. However, my first interest in her was really only as a unit in game, being the first dollkeeper not as a character. However, as I got her, and looked at her design, read her story, and heard her voicelines, she grew on my as one of my favorites, especially considering how little I cared about her story at first. I like how unique her voice is, I like her design with the scissors, and how Annie is a doll copy of her in looks, but with a completely different personality. I love the way she toys with people and essentially gaslights and girlbosses her way to what she wants. I especially love how Annie is a very interesting character lore wise, being a living and independent arts creation of some sort.

I actually have Catapult at E1 LV55 and max trust, not because I like her but because she was legit useful to me as an F2P player needing an AoE Sniper, using her until I got Fiametta lol. Also she's not that bad at the Facility, so that's nice I guess.

AoE sniper and Lord Guards were legitimately the hardest units for me to get early on by sheer lack of luck... Eventually I got Lappland, when I had already passed most of the spider stages, and Midnight soon after, but I legitimately went almost two years without any AoE guard other than Catapult... So I'm actually quite glad they have a good variety of 3, Catapult was always the only option when Kyo asked for "you best AoE sniper"

Lol, I'm the exact opposite. My initial impression of Doberman was that she was a cow and was just hating/crapping on the Doktah, aka me for no reason. So I felt some kinship with Catapault and her rebellious/free-spirit. But, after having read some more character interactions and lore around Doberman, I've come to appreciate her stern but caring nature. She's not trying to be a b***h or just a wet blanket like Catapault thinks, but is trying to prepare these operators for life and death situations. She wants to push them now in a safe environment, so if that day every comes that they have the best chance for survival. And she has moments where she can loosen up and show her more caring nature. There's a reason why Fang idolizes her. So I don't love Doberman, but I can appreciate her character and what she sets out to die, still find her a bit meh in gameplay unfortunately.

I am a new player and didn‘t know about the whole hate catapult thing. Personally, sure her gacha dialogue is pretty lengthy but I find that her ingame usage is quite good. I clear most things solely with low stars cause frankly....5-6 Stars are just way to expensive for me and catapult being a decent aerial attacker with amazing range helped me out in lots of scenarios. I personally had Shirayuki as my main aoe sniper before but I couldn‘t get her to e1 different from Catapult so she got replaced

Thanks for making this vid. It's crucial for us to read character lore and, when the opportunity comes, to appreciate a unit's kit ...... I've actually been more cruel to Beagle. I like snipers and Catapult does the AOE role well. But that isn't your point, we should really read up on characters and get to know them better instead of assuming that they're just their fanon portrayals I've seen a similar attitude to Warfarin. The Warfarin in her Operator Records is literally a different person from the purely insane, amoral, bloodthirsty mad scientist in fanon This is a great video and I'd say sorely needed. Cheers!

One of the first thing I did on my account is to build all the 3*. Having unit that make the job normally, always full pot and very very cheap is a very important thing before you max Myrtle. Catapult is one of them. But after you have Myrtle/Bagpipe duo, there no real need to use anything else than 6* if you have it. Catapulte is sleeping in my base, and I don't thing I will use her anymore.

I pretty much went into Arknights blind, so when I got her in recruitment and other banner pulls she was apart of my team during the majority of Early game runs. Her kit served my teams roles pretty well until I got better units within the same archetype that she was replaced by. I still use her from time to time on occasion as well. I had never heard of the reasons why she was hated before though, so those where new to me.

I build Kirara and Nightmare. Kirara is always regarded as a bad D Tier unit that deals low damage. But after building her, completely maxing her out (i cant improve her in any way anymore, she is max pot, max everything), i realised i like her a lot. She is hard to kill, gamer girl and pretty chill. I personally think of her highly. Nightmare is absolutely forgotten, im sure many players dont even know of her existence. She has a bad kit in the game but many redeeming qualities. She works well in tandem with other operators, has a cute design and looks how vanilla tastes. People dont regard her as a bad unit because no one ever talks about her but many should give her a chance. She is quite the fun unit if you pair her with pushers.

I love AOE snipers. Catapult was regularly on my squad until I unlocked Meteorite. Her skill increasing the splash radius is nice too, it makes her pretty good at taking out Slug waves. I have played since before she was in recruitment though, so that might be why I don't hate her as much as other people apparently do

OK, so you've convinced me to give Catapult a second look. I still hate how long it takes to skip her dialog in recruitment, but lore-wise and kit-wise she ain't that bad for a 3 star. I already have enough folks who fill her role, so I don't really need her. Although if I'd be honest my least favorite operator is Durin.

For me, it mostly comes down to there being little reason to use/up her. For a three star sniper, I'll pick Kroos first, every time. Offensively charged skill goes nice with atk speed buffs, while that skill also works great with the bonus damage for 1s after skill activation one. And she prioritizes drones, which is nice to have. I also like to pick Archetto, so she covers AoE and has synergy with Kroos. So for this reason, she doesn't have value for IS. For an AoE sniper, Shirayuki is both a character that shows up often enough and has two useful skills... one offering arts damage + slow, the other even longer range. She's also a four star, so you can E2 her if you so desire, and module her up. Basically, if you are going to up an AoE sniper early, it'll probably be Shirayuki. I don't dislike her, though I do dislike the inability to skip the recruitment line.

As someone who loves Siege with every fiber of its being, and uses her with the bagpipe-myrtle combo every chance he gets (because even I can't cope that hard), it's frustrating to hear so many people just completely leave her aside, if indeed she's just too simple and her s3 doesn't give any DP at all and just turns her into a Guard like her alter probably will be, and like she basically already is.

I love how you're telling a specific part of AK community known for "not being fond" of reading to go and read about characters they're apathetic to or even "hate". For me personally, if i do not like an op's characters i'll just chalk them up to being a useful asset in combat, no more or less. That's why i can keep a SA in my team almost all the time for my NTRK and Skadig drops (and yes, i have no mind for such a man that would waste a Doctor's time trying to abuse their relationship for his benefits). If you're specifically playing Kuranta knights i totes understand Catapult's usefulness to you, and even if i'm personally... let's say "not moved" by her slacking attitude and being kind of a side character, i totally understand if you like her well. Just remember that meme culture tend to not always be logical and usually grounded in avoidance of the facts in order to create absurd details, and that EN AK is an egregious example of that (cf. 0sanity people acting as if that's the norm). Anyhow, cheers to them horses! (and less Maria love just means more Maria for me!)

I mean sure the long text is a little annoying, and I don't follow or know most of the community opinions. I had 0 idea people disliked Saga for example but, I'm pretty sure the main reason is Catapult being added to recruitment directly nerfed your certificate gain, as AOE + Sniper used to guaranteed a 4* before she was added. The text is just the meme icing on the cake that's carried forward through time and what remains. Spot did the same to Defender + Healing but he came after.

I never used Catapult for two reasons: 1) I got Shirayuki before I got Catapult; 2) I got Meteorite by the time I got to Chapter 1. And I don't care if top-tier players think AOE sniper type isn't great, I like Meteorite. And her skin is dope. Because I don't got her developed, she's at low trust and I don't know her story, so all I know about her is that she's a shit-started. But Arknights character writing is often really good and appealing, so I'll get to it at some point.

Kinda true story. I'm a doctor who don't really hate Catapult. I understand why people hate her, the recruitment lines, the way she ruined recruitment tag (before her existence, you can get 4 star with AoE + Sniper/range because only Shirayuki is in the pool). But to me she more like a bit annoying than I actually hate her. Probably because I used to use Catapult, and I think that her skill make the AoE dmg area larger is quite cool. I also didn't know about the Shirayuki recruitment until the day Catapult exist, so I don't really hate her. She is in the A6 squad which to me is a big plus, A6 is the clown squad and I love every single one of their story and personality

I find that you are being a bit too hard on Saga's loudness. If you use her S3, her main skill, she barely makes a noise, since you only use that skill once before retreating her. Most of the time, the Saga yelling memes come from players actively trying to make her as annoying as possible with her S2. She's one of the operators where the community's perception differs the most from the actual writing. A disciplined monk who probably grew up eating a vegetarian buddhist diet, who is amazed by the world around her and actively tries to find answers to her many questions, while still enjoying the more Epicurean virtues... Is just reduced to the charicature of another hungry doggo by the community. Truly, EN can't read.

I have read most of the content available on global, characters included. I have my personal tastes of course and I'm more willing to accept some operators than others, but at the very least I pride myself in having knowledge about most characters in the game. And it's true that sometimes reading a character's lore might change my opinion about him/her. In fact, I ended up pulling for Blemishine back then because of that, despite a complete lack of interest in her visuals. I also ended up hating Hypergryph for what they did to Whislash because her character is completely removed from her appearance and in-game demeanor which uuuh... Is that of a horny slut for some reason. Sadly for Catapult, though I will admit I haven't read about her in ages, I don't remember being particularly moved by her lore and since I hate her design AND her wasting my time in recruitments, well tough luck but I can't like her.
