As a dark skinned woman, who has attended predominately white schools until going to university in the uk. I saw white boys only like white girls and black boys only like white girls with the odd occasion desiring mixed raced girls. Then growing up African where I see a lot of aunties bleach their skin thinking that light skin is beautiful but still trying to convince me that my dark complexion was beautiful. Even at my big age at 27 I had come to accept that black men would choose light skinned women over dark skinned women. However, this is not the first episode with pop the balloon where I've seen a black man admire the dark complexion of a dark skinned women. Don't get me wrong, all shades of black is beautiful and should be valued. But to see black men, prefer dark skinned women healed a small part of the 15 year old me that considered bleaching my skin because I thought something was wrong with my dark complexion.
