My step dad flew c130 as navigator said the last part of Korea and the start of Vietnam old man just tell me stories of planes flying in formation watching the flack around people would die in war had a caset tape with actual recording of them flying during Viet man would say one time flying in the c130 they would drop a10000 pound bomb out the back of the plane and boom instant helicopter landing pad, I believe that man, my favorite is watching the 130s doing touch n go patterns in ft. Yeah. Ac130s don’t really miss that much. Way too slow as well. I kept saying what are you waiting on…come on blast them. Glad I ain’t on the ground fighting those guys. We would be overrun. Also, that’s a bunch of ammo. If the bad guys had any sort of ADA that aircraft would be in the dirt.

In real war would you want to have a fair fight? What you would really want in real war is to have a totally unfair advantage against your enemy. With that advantage you can win a battle and possibly end a war way sooner than if you did not have that advantage. Less death, less destruction.

A little late to the party, but they actually are probably more susceptible to SAM’s yes, but they have a lot of ECM’s and standoff equipment on them. Any IR launched missiles (such as a MANPAD) would have a hard time finding its target when this thing drops 200 flares behind it.
