let me tell you why this is so: every trance track is telling us its own story. las lilas is for me the best track of this year because its telling us a wonderful story of ups & downs, calm and powerful/ aggressive moments. imho joc and heatbeat created a masterpiece of trance with this track!

Many dj's and producers actually argue that we simply wouldn't have this type of trance if it weren't for techno and house. Its like you said, its more emotional, but, its still a conglomeration of house and techno with spacey, ambient soundscapes, and emotional melodies. Take away the melodies, and you have techno, add a funky bass line, and you've got some upbeat house music.

For the sake of mixing. Trance is mixed with the full length of each track played. The intro's and outro's overlap when a DJ mixes well, thus, in a mix tracks don't exactly sound 8+ minutes long. Look for radio edits if you want to hear the heart of a trance track, they're more straight to the point.

Cheesy??? You can't call a track that just cause you feel its to long. Going back a few years ago some tracks were 10 min +!! I remember when the tiesto mix of Delerium - Silence came out it was like 11 mins but the track was so damn good I didn't even notice the time going by. You never wanted it to end:) Of course the music has changed since!

Then again trance tracks take time to build and develop if you don't like it you should probably start listening to other music. Trance tracks are vastly layered, complicated and intricate in order to entrance the listener and build up and produce emotions and that just cant be done in short tracks.
