pico has held a long time grudge against denji after he failed to kill him, so he proceeds to tell nene and darnell about his existence. almost a year after pico's assassination attempt, nene and darnell try to catch denji lacking (in his chainsaw form) after getting rid of some devils attacking the public.

The fact that Nene and Darnell are both wearing Japanese school uniforms (and Pico isn't) tells me that they all planned to make a surprise attack. Pico really held that grudge enough to plan that out
