earl has this quality where his verses never seem to start or end; you just sort of happen to encounter him at the beginning of a sentence and eventually he wanders out of earshot, still flowing
@surplusrevenge20133 жыл бұрын
Earl is part of a totally new thing in rap imo. It’s expressionism instead of just description. 99% of rap music, even great rap, is written in full prose, as in, it’s full sentences tht are grammatically correct more or less, n follow linguistic conventions of “making sense”. Also most rap music up until now only uses stylistic exercises such as metaphor, similes, alliteration, punchlines; in order to come off as lyrically complex. There’s often not much deeper meaning to these exercises than that. Earl and a few others imo, are scrapping that for something more close to being romantic poets. Quotables and disconnected phrases that instead of making strict “sense”, and just being “lyrically complex”, are meant to evoke as much emotional potency, feeling and nostalgia as possible. Sometimes you’ll even catch a line, and it’s relatable and emotionally relevant to you before even fully understanding the full meaning of it. Almost everything he says is completely symbolic as opposed to descriptive. As I said, Like old poetry. I think these guys are pushing this concept in rap farther than anyone else prolly ever did.

I had just gotten out of a residential facility after 11 years in there because when i was younger my parents would fight and id act up just to get they're attention. Anyway after getting out i was convinced i wasn't normal and id never make any real friends. 4 years later and those same people i was chillin on the beach with are now my brothers. I owe them a great deal for helping me experience my definition of normalcy. Every time i hear this song i just sit here and think about how crazy my life has been and how so very grateful i am for the people in it.

Earls verses give life, to my heart having to litsen with understanding to what he's talking about, the relatability is like something speacial, Glad he releasing now again, and Mos def all the verses in this song are just Special. ♥️
