I've been a stepmom for 12 years and my best advice would be step back and observe, ask questions but no assumptions or judgements. Be the child's biggest fan, the parents support, and you will be happier for it

@Cooper Smith until you earn your place in the family yeah. I'm closer to my daughter now than either of her birth parents, I'm not her mother she has one already, I'm her step mom, I'm a back up or stand in. I would protect her from anyone, I'm on her side and im impartial, it's easy if you Know your role.

@Cooper Smith she is 18, in university and we are very close, I've raised 4 amazing kids and 2 step kids while working as a nurse, you have no idea what you are talking about. I know my kids very well, I'm engaged and connected but for the mothering it's very unhealthy for a step parent to go in making rules and demands on kids without proper boundaries first, that takes years. How many dumb people bring in new partners as step parents and they are left in charge and the kids beaten molested or killed, seriously I didnt leave my grown kids with my husband for a long ass time til i knew they were comfortable YEARS, And i wouldnt have trusted him as a parent if he left his kids with me or wanted me to parent them. My kids were never molested, beaten, or harmed because i was vigilant, think about how well creeps are at hiding.

This is exactly the way to go. It works better than trying to fight for a place as a third parent. The child already has parents there’s no need to be a replacement. I’m a step mother myself.

My step mom told me and my sister to our face that we were not her kids there for not her problem. And the days we would see our dad all they would do is fight. We asked him not to bring her so many times even my mom told him and he always brought her. We just stopped hanging out and talking all together. My step dad complete opposite, literally feel more comfortable calling him dad than our own dad.

They might stop talking to us for days, or beat us if we disrespect them again 😂😂😂 the funny thing is they dont talk to us, but dont let us "leave the house", they are angry until we know how to say "I'm sorry, I love you", then all the family starts to cry 😂

I’ve worked with children in a professional capacity for most of my adult life. Giving parents advice on how to raise their kids is a big no no for me. Even if it were my own family. Parents ego’s are wrapped in how they parent and if you poorly traverse that conversation it can go bad real quick. It’s extremely important that you have that conversation with your spouse, about parenting styles and expectations, before you start a family with them. Shit, even if you do have that conversation, you won’t know your parenting habits until you have a kid. Also doesn’t he realize that no amount of gifts will fill the hole that was left by the loss of her mother? I’m hearing that he’s buying out of feelings of guilt for her loss. That, to me, is extremely dangerous.

Anti-LGBTQ+ parents just yell in front of their kids, give them a bunch of physical and emotional trauma, then kick them out when they're not Fair Isle sweater wearing muppets. It's the insecurity over healthy parenting for me.

Cooper Smith Come on now. She's a child and he's moving to HER country. He had years to learn the language. It's a matter of communicating with ANYONE. Instead he's making Armando responsible for translation.
@KRL1999
@KRL1999 3 жыл бұрын
@Cooper Smith Yes! I don't think Armando really appreciates just how difficult it is to learn a language as an adult (most people who learn another language as children don't understand). It's totally possible, but it won't happen overnight. However, since he's perfectly bilingual, it would be easy for him to teach English to Hannah, and she would learn so much faster than Kenny. It takes effort from both sides here, it's not fair for all the blame to be placed on Kenny.
@KRL1999
@KRL1999 3 жыл бұрын
@Cooper Smith Right. And the whole reason they chose to stay in Mexico was because Hannah doesn't speak English. Kenny literally gave up his entire life to move there in order to be with Armando. Some patience is the least he should be afforded. It would have been a lot easier for Armando and Hannah to move to the U. S., since both Kenny and Armando speak English and Hannah is a child, who would learn the language very quickly.

@Cooper Smith understand your stand of point. But some things need time. They have been doing it before Kenny was around. I also think he feels guilty and sorry for her, that the mother died etc. this goes deep... so of course they need to find a way in the middle. He could talk about it with Armando before giving these low. Blows and complain. Just because someone wants something doesn't mean it goes natural.. lmfao Co parenting isn't easy let alone in their situation. The way you say things it is very important. This has nothing to do with him not being mature because he sees what he's doing. He just loved his child so much and need to. Learn that saying no doesn't mean you don't love her.. Kenny can't compare his situation on raising his child with him raising his. Also there's a big cultural diffrence and they hae diffrent characters ..

That's why people don't want to date people with kids, you can't just sit there and allow your partner's kids disrespect you, your partner and the household and tell them to step back. It doesn't work like this, my step dad disciplined me and my brother, he clothed us, fed us and we lived in a house he paid for and for someone to say step back it's a no no. The kids will feel not welcome if the other partner doesn't take an active part in their upbringing.

As a stepparent, I think it’s best to not overstep your role. It causes resentment and anger. Especially considering she’s so young and adjusting to big things. He needs to understand that trust and his role as someone to govern her life is earned not just given because he’s married to her dad. He definitely needs to learn to communicate with her in order to grow a relationship with her. With that being said she’s a well behaved child so it’s ok to let her be spoiled modestly.
