I had them for almost a whole year and they keep coming back and going away. I was told I got these from biting my nails very often aswell as cleaning the litter box. My advice is if you have cats clean your litter box very cautiously and make sure no cat feces or waste gets in contact with your body. Alos if you bit your nails very often like me, then get a medication that puts bitter spray on your nails so that you dont feel like biting it anymore. Your nails contain bacteria and can spread pinworm eggs. Also get the medication ASAP before a whole city of pinworms form inside your rectum. They only increase the longer you wait. Dont be embarrassed to seek help because this is a serious matter. To check if you really even have them or not, put regular scotch tape on your rectum before you go to sleep and if you see tiny white thread worms then u have it. These are parasites and dont worry because they are not harmful to your body at all. They carry no diseases or wont infect you with anything. They just like to squirm alot in groups so that is what causes the itching. I hope this helped you guys in need :D

These are no joke and extremely uncomfortable. I had them every month like clockwork for 10 years even though I’m an extremely hygienic and wash my hands a lot. After 10 years it finally started becoming more sporadic every couple of months and now I don’t get them. Always remember to wash your hands and keep that area clean unless you want to feel like you have burning chicken pox

Also, the worms can get into the vagina and airborne eggs can get into the eyes, and can cause cellulitis in the eyes, and can go into the body cavity and cause cellulitis in the the arms and legs, and they come out through the skin. They can lodge in the joints, the knees, and cause a great deal of pain. It is important to keep changing the bed linens and wash it all in hot water. I had pinworms as a kid. Seemed like the itching was worse in the evening . I remember well when I went to the doctor for them. He stuck a stick up my behind ! It was probably a tongue-depresser with medicine on the tip of it, but shoving it in like that was totally unexpected to the point where my legs raised up and I came close to kicking him in the face, or somewhere on his body -where the nurse replied, “Don’t kick the doctor...” Ofcourse that was the farthest thought from my mind, but what do you expect when you shove something into someone’s behind ...without warning ?! It’s a usual reaction !

It amazes me that all these doctors talk about pinworms in such a limited way. there is SO much more to them that they aren't mentioning. I've had them for almost 5 years now and I feel like they are destroying me. I've had a constant fire red sore throat for four years. I've been chronically constipated, have lost half of my hair and hair sores all over my skin. I'm on my fourth doctor and do you know what they've said... I need a psychiatrist! I really don't know what to do at this point. if you read medical studies and so forth you will see that all the symptoms I am having are pinworms!

OTC meds like Pin X or Reese's pinworm medication. If you don't have access to either: very strict hygiene, showering everyday in the morning (making sure to clean the anal area with some soap), changing your underwear, washing your hands every time you're going to eat, etc. The worms and the eggs don't survive that long, so keeping this up for at least 6 weeks should get rid of them eventually.

The thing I don't get with the dosing is that with meb etc.. is that they don't kill the eggs, so the first dose kills the worms, that's all good, but then you wait for 2 whole week to take the second?? the eggs are at diff stages of hatching as they do it every night( even inside you if need be). Why wait one or two weeks as you said they hatch (mature??) after 4-6 hrs. My way is to take the meds 3 days apart, and four doses not two, wipe the but cheeks with alcohol wipes, every night, once in the middle of the night and in the morning and shower. Its the eggs that are really the culprit as its the glue that the eggs stick too that causes itching, but you can feel them move also, as that part of the body (rectum) has so many nerves. its the re-infection that get ppl. hat need to make some kind of vaccine. :)

Wiping the anus with garlic is far more effective than alcohol wipes Also, when it comes to hand washing- a nail scrubbing brush is needed to clean under the nails (where the eggs hide) I'd put a small amount of bleach on the nail brush too, that will prevent reinfection as well. Eating garlic (freshly chopped- put into capsules if unable to eat raw) and parsley will cleanse the worms from the colon too. Garlic can also be applied around the anus to kill worms and eggs, this must be done every evening, then wiped off (+ the area washed) in the morning and process repeated for 2/4 week's

I seen them again this month...there are less pinworms this time around. I'm hoping one more round and they will be completely gone. I also give her Reeses pin worm treatment. You can find that at Wal-greens, Walmart and CVS pharmacy. She has had 4 doses of the Reeses altogether.

I realise you've probably already solved this issue, but just incase someone comes here looking for answers, garlic helps, we roast a whole clove of garlic, more if you can handle it, eat it and after a few days they disappear, then Do it again in a few days. Might be coincidence but my whole family swear by it.

@@bhcleary No, it isn't coincidence. Garlic is a remedy. Garlic also often will kill the bacteria of some types of ear infections (use the warm garlic oil usually into the ear w a dropper). too much garlic never hurt anyone. You will stink but, hey! Better than pain or worms both!

Maybe, but if they are around your house you will get reinfected. Eat as much garlic as you can and make yourself a little tissue piece w garlic oil on it and place it real close in the anal area. Hygiene is extremely important. Vacuum a lot - a few times a week. (Pets can also transfer them). Clean linen, bed sheets frequently & change hand towels every day. Thank god I actually found someone who explains it. Thank you. My sister just got it (Well as in, she has them crawling out of her bum now) and we are in Peru. We went to a doctor and the doctor gave us a pill that we take 2 times daily so obviously i dont think we are getting the correct medication. I havent had them come out yet But I might be infected. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them early? Like kill them off before I become contagious?
