This actually explains a lot about Celica’s later actions, such as her argument with Alm later on. Her deepest fear was Alm dying horribly as soon here, and she wanted to do everything she could to prevent it. But all she managed to do was alienate herself from Alm and then later on, she ends up temporarily dying due to a pointless sacrifice she makes to try to save everyone.

This was Mila showing Celica what could happen and that she has to do something to stop it. Rudolph was being possessed by a corrupt mad Duma to kill Alm. Gods like Mila and Duma eventually go mad so thats why the Falchion exists. Duma does know that a fated child will kill him hence the reason why he possessed Rudolph to kill Alm.

It's like an alternative timeline shown by Mila's turn wheel. If Celica failed to proceed to Jedah's palace and let only Alm proceed to Regaillian castle, Jedah will take control of Rudolph (see his black aura) and destroyed the deliverance.

Alm isn’t so loved, and has to go through much more heartbreak (pre-Alicization. I haven’t read it so no opinion). He also has some similar traits but overall Alm sees more of the future than Kirito does, as Kirito focuses much more on what will happen now, not after. Celica is a bit more similar to what you’re saying, but Asuna sticks with Kirito through almost anything, but Celica’s hard headed ness keeps her from Alm for almost the whole game. Rudolf and Heathcliff just don’t match, especially when you consider what Rudolf is doing and how different their goals are.
