My friend, I bought 3 duduks from "Master" Simon on ebay, do you think they are any good? I'm really strugling keep the higher notes in tune... don't know if it's my lack of technique or the instrument...

The reason could be the tuning of your duduk itself, the tuning of the reed, or just improper combination of duduk and reed, or you yourself who is unable to properly play and lack knowledge of how to approach every note on duduk. Even on a properly tuned duduk you need to know how to approach every note, otherwise it will sound out of tune. Your case is most probably the combination of all 3 factors. I never tried duduks from Simon and never seen them in Armenia in duduk circles - professional players or students. He is not a maker whose duduks are played by Armenian duduk players that I know at least, and his name and brand are also not discussed in the local duduk circles. Most probably he makes and sells only for abroad which makes a big sense these days, of course - better profit, less responsibility. Because local dudukists would surely accept only a decent quality, and foreigners are foreigners.. Reading your message I was wondering why did you buy 3 duduks from a maker whose duduks you don’t even like or at least whose quality you are not certain about? Sounds very strange to me. Why didn’t you start just with 1 duduk of a particular maker and check first if you like it or not before buying 3? You must have had your reasonable reasons, of course. Not my business. Regrading your question I feel that you really lack knowledge in how duduk works. Watch more tutorials , for example on my channel or on someone else’s, take some live lessons (or online) - it will help to understand the subject, because duduk is not easy at all. On my channel there are some tutorials about duduk sounding out of tune, also particularly on upper notes. For example this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYHMf3tmicmela8 Duduk isn't a cheap and easy thing to grasp, for anyone. If you doubt your instrument and need another one you always can order through me. An online lesson I also can provide, but just very limited. Or I can give you a contact of my own teacher. My direct contacts are in the description box to the video. Ciao

Thank you for the feedback, the reason that I bought 3 at once was beacause here in Brazil we have draconian taxes to importation and the 3 are for sale on ebay.

How can I see your duduks for sale? Do you have a site? Thank you very much

I have a question. Do you oil any part of the reeds?

Thank you so much for your videos ! Do you clean inside the duduk ? If yes, how can we do ? I found no information on Google about it 😅
What tune is that playing in the background? It's fantastic! Is there notes for it somewhere?

Hi karuna, what is the fifth duduk in the end (from left to right) written "jivan gasparyan" ? Is it a special edition from Arthur Grigoryan ?
@KarunaDuduk9 ай бұрын
this is not from Arthur. That duduk in Bb is from Jivan Gasparyan Junior. I dont like its sound, So I never play it although it is in a perfect tune. But I take care of it anyways.

I thought it was a big No No to oil the inside (like upper inside and holes). Thanks for info.
@patrickbateman31469 ай бұрын
@@sockneman I've heard some say it's good. Some say it's not. Karuna does recommend oiling inside but not nearly as often as outside. I know other wood instruments, like Zurna and Ney flute require inside and out, so why not also duduk?
