So are Numenorians like a branch of Men that is mix with a little Elvish genes , so they live longer age slower ,stand taller etc..
@captainvalourous6668Ай бұрын
Technically only the High Kings of Numenor had a mix of Elvish genes at first but considering the High Kings tend to have many children as the descendants of Elros Tar-Minyatur the younger children of these High Kings would intermarry with the normal Numenoreans hence allowing their tiny Elvish genes to spread across the Island Kingdom and a perfect example of this are the Lords of Andunie, the ancestors of Dunedain Kings of Arnor and Gondor.
@SkyHawk2137Ай бұрын
Probably the simplest way of thinking about it is that the Numenoreans got a Divine Blessing that 'so long as they hold true to the ways of the Valar, they would live longer, be greater and need fear no illness'. Which naturally meant that as they increasingly stopped following the ways of the Valar, the Blessing receded. And they are Men so it's very unlikely you get perfection generation after generation for even the most loyal of families. I think there is an element of 'bloodline' to it however as I believe the Gondorians lost some of that Gift/Blessing by having children with non-Numenoreans. But there also seems to be cases where the descendants of such a couple then can see the Blessing return to considerably greater strength and stay like that, which suggests it's less 'diluting the bloodline weakens the Blessing' and more 'diluting the bloodline weakens the Blessing and their children are less likely, but not guaranteed, to act in ways which don't see the Blessing renew it's strength leaving them lesser'. Wouldn't say that Elvish blood entering the Numenorean bloodlines had no effect however. It absolutely should have, but lesser than the influence of the Blessing. Something something an Alloy is greater than it's parts, but some of it's parts may still be great indeed?

so after the sinking of Numenor the faithful created the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor. how different do you think Middle Earth would have been if they had only formed Gondor, seeing as Arnor eventually fell to Angmar and the Witch King?
@SkyHawk2137Ай бұрын
Probably not much at all really. If not worse. Because Arnor was founded on some major Numenorean colonies, so you either leave those there thus having the possibility of them falling to the Shadow due to being 'abandoned', have them form Not!Arnor anyway but weaker and more likely to end up clashing with Gondor because they aren't 'Sibling Kingdoms', or evacuate those colonies to strengthen Gondor which then leaves those lands open for the Forces of Shadow to colonise and/or the native Men to repopulate and due to certain Numenorean legacies (especially from the last days of Numenor) as well as the Forces of Shadow around the area, including some Peoples of Men who already had tendencies to serve the Shadow... Well, you either have a Not!Arnor form which at best might clash with Gondor at times, weakening both, you have a Not!Arnor which falls to the Shadow and serves them or you have an equivalent of Angmar emerge uncontested by the Men of the West living nearby. And none of this means Gondor ends up stronger anyway, for concentrating all the Numenorean Faithful in Gondor just means Sauron and the Forces of Shadow focus their efforts on that kingdom instead of splitting them between the two.

I think the creation of Arnor was pivotal as it was the bulwark against the planned invasions of the witch-king and his what remains of saurons forces. Cladding their ships in iron would make no sense, unless cannon were available. They would be much better off cladding their ships in copper, which would reduce barnacles and shipworm, and thus protect the hulls (and the speed of their ships). Iron just doesn't make any sense militarily or economically. Wooden ships were robust enough against the weather, and against any weapons their enemies might have. However, metal hulls would be lighter, which would be a benefit if the ships were being powered by steam engines, but steam engines in wooden vessels would be done first, and only later would the Numenoreans realize that it would be helpful to lighten the hulls using steel. Also, Numenorean ships are illustrated using a twin-masted design. Sure, it looks cool, but it's twice as expensive, and, more importantly, as soon as the wind blows on the sails, produces a twisting moment in the masts, which would likely increase the chance of the masts snapping apart. The uneven wind loading would cause increased failure chance. (Although I must admit it looks cool, and sets them apart from "standard" sailing ship designs.)

While I love the story of Sauron's armies fleeing on sight of Numenorians and him having no choice but to surrender, it's quite likely a ploy of Sauron from start to finish. Notice how this all started because Sauron declared himself the king of men and lord of earth, and that his armies didn't instantly flee from Numenorians when they first met in battle years earlier. Sauron most likely planned to be captured from the very beginning, and arranged things in such a way so that this glourious victory itself pumped their pride.

He mightve thought of brute forcing his way through as was the practice of his overlord against much greater armies of the past. But seeing hulking 7 footers in heavy amors capable of decimating his orcs without sweat, we could say he had his back up plan of "surrendering" A viable option
