Armillaria "Honey Fungus" Root Rot: a Harbinger of Doom for trees

A mid-September rain storm triggered the emergence of the armillaria fungus fruiting body. That's an ominous sign for the susceptible tree species near the emergence. The roots are likely already infected, so the only option is to keep planting new trees.

Can this grow in compost and cause plants like pansies etc to become limp and lifeless? My raised flower box had beautiful healthy plants in it a few days ago, then we got a very hot, dry spell for 4 or 5 days. I watered them well and now they are all still green and flowering but are dying at the roots and are all limp and ailing. I noticed 5 or 6 tiny mushrooms around the base of one or two of them. Is it honey fungus I am dealing with??? I may have used some of my home made compost in the mix and I have left over timber pieces in the bottom. Could this be the cause of my plants dying?

There are thousands of fungi that can cause problems for plant roots. Unless you see the same honey-colored clump of mushrooms shown in this video, it's probably something else.

@@moseseisley557 Thank you for your swift reply. I sometimes notice an odd few toadstool/mushrooms growing in my grass now and again but never seen any in my raised bed/box. To be fair these ones are really, really tiny and have a very domed head and are a bit darker than those in your vid. I guess I'll just have to keep checking and removing them when they crop up and hope for the best. If push comes to shove I'll have to maybe remove the wood from the bottom of the box and replace all the compost. Great video by the way.
