What I like a lot about a good vs or collab in the trance community is that you can hear when it goes from one DJ's sound to the next. The way this song is done, when it drops you into that progressive groove and beat of Arty and then back to the dutch trance sounds of Armin van Buuren, but at the climax you can hear both of their styles. Very good.

It's Progressive Trance, there is a difference between those two... Common guys, I compose in EDM.. Progressive House concentrates on smaller synths buildup and a housy or techno/abstract groove, Progressive Trance concentrates on delay and reeverb and on a typical trance melody. It is Progressive Trance. And if not, then what would you call the rolling bassline @ 1:22 and 6:57? A rolling bassline originated in Trance productions and is still the main type of bassline Trance employs. The chords at the begining are very Progressive and could be used by a progressive house track, however. Therefore this is very progressive trance. However, the breakdown at 2:50 is part of a typical trance song structure. This is trance, but I don't care about genre too much.

No, it is not trance, it has a total different melody on what every trance track has, and it has nothing to do with the BPM. This is REAL Progressive House (not like the sh1t of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W, Hardwell, Krewella, etc. that beatport wants to sell like "Progressive House", when it's clearly not). By the way, Arty is a Progressive House Producer, and he has always been... ;)

Hey, I wasn't criticising you, I was just curious to know what is generally regarded to be the 'real' thing, since so many people couldn't agree themselves. TBH, while I still love the older trance type songs, I don't mind all this 'trouse' stuff that is going around recently. Maybe its because I love Trance & I love House, so the mix isn't too bad, and while there are some terrible trouse songs out there, there are plenty of good ones like Apache and any Andrew Rayel song to give an example.

TBH what exactly is "real" trance? Everyone these days go on about how this new direction that trance is taking is shit and is not the "real" trance, yet these people cannot even decide for themselves what "real" trance really is. Here you are claiming that trance is "over 138bpm and has energy, then there are others who claim that progressive is the "real" stuff, and then others who claim that the older, slower Sasha tracks are the "real" deal

dang, thats not it, but thanks! im probably just gonna have to keep looking. trying to explain any kind of edm over the internet is so hard haha. it has some synth and bass and then for like 2 seconds right after, does a piano type noise in a scale that goes up except for the last note which goes back down. then repeats the synth piano pattern. I understand this is probably wayyy too hard to picture but it seemed kinda like a j'ai envie type song. thanks again for your help!

Anyone know what avb song has a part in it with only piano in it? The piano notes go up from what I remember. I've heard it on a lot of asot videos and avb ultra videos and stuff, but I can't find it. Sorry that I don't have more of a description. It may not even be by avb to be honest, but it definitely has his sound to it. It seems like it is a pretty popular song except for when you are trying to ID it...any help would be greatly appreciated

While I agree with your point in principle, name one category of music that isn't sub-categorized. Music is such a unique thing, clumping so many styles together for the sake of simplicity does music a disservice as a whole. An analogy to what you are saying would be like saying, 'stop differentiating types of rock music and just call it all blues'

How exactly do you figure that? It has some breakbeat sections (but so does trance from back in the 90s), but it has a euphoric melody a trance bpm and, small but clear, breakdowns. At the least I'd call it progressive trance, which is what Armin mainly produces anyway.

There is no such thing as trouse, this is progressive trance (what some people call "trouse"). Let's all just stop worrying what genre it fits into or who had more influence in the style of the song (Arty or Armin) and enjoy it!
