After Churchill escaped from the Boers he sailed from Portuguese East Africa to Durban South Africa on the SS Induna In 1909 the Induna located and rescued the disabled SS Pilbarra, 80 miles north of New Caledonia and towed the standard vessel to Port Vila In August 1914 the Induna was chased by the German raider Wolf and captured in the Marshall Islands From 1925 until 1932 the Induna was used as a "rail ship" and ferried trains across the Clarence River in Northern New South Wales The wrecked hull of the Induna is still on the riverbank near the old Grafton bridge
