KAMIKAZE: HMS Illustrious, April 6, 1945

The war-weary and battle-scarred HMS Illustrious was the subject of a kamikaze attack while supporting USN operations at Okinawa. While a near-miss, the underwater blast re-opened old wounds which resulted in serious vibrations. But the veteran continued her tour of duty until her replacement - HMS Formidable - arrived.
