Yes, it's a dead branch of hobbies. But it's still giving a great deal of pleasure for us Aged people. I'm a man of 87 y.o. Wow... How nice to read this article here !

Not dead! I’m 40 years younger and still interested! 👍🌼 These circuits have so much cleverness, a lot more than meets the eye.

What a beauty! Very nice build. Reminds me of the times I listened to the whole world on my worn down fourth hand receiver when I was 14 or 15. Wonderful!

This was the style of regen I built as a kid, my first attempt. Damn it sounds just like I remember. Also I just remember being floored when the station I tuned to IDed and it was all the way across the world, New Zealand. I was hooked from there.

Wow... so inventive using the old times adjustment styles. Sounds like a charm... I like the strength of the signals. Peter is right.... it has a little too much high end hehehe. After a few hours listening on cw the brain may not be as happy. I know as my receiver was the same at first hahaha. Lovely receiver... 73. I had to subscribe ))

Congratulations. Some great techniques if you don't have a variable capacitor. Unusual RF preamp circuit in having the base at the same DC potential as the collector and applying the supply to the base. In the audio department it sounds as if it's been optimised for 'communications quality', but I'd be tempted to see if it's possible to add a little more bass and roll off the highs, especially for CW. Eg increase U12 and U14 to about 0.1 to 0.47uF and have say a 0.01 to 0.1uF across the LM386 input. Two other comments: Should C3's + be facing Pin 1 of the LM386, not pin 8? And should the audio be applied to Pin 3 with pin 2 earthed for the LM386? I would also suggest a 10uF from Pin 7 to ground as well as 100uF from Pin 6 to ground with a 10 ohm resistor in the supply line. You might have been lucky but my experience is that LM386s can oscillate if this isn't done. A higher value for C5 (eg 100 uF) might also be beneficial for more bass.

Thanks for the great comments. U12, 14 are incorrectly labeled on the schematic. I am using larger values for these two caps. C3 is wired wrong, will change. Pins 2 and 3 can be wired either way, just changes from inverting to non inverting. I do have a 100uf on pin 6 to ground, just not in the schematic. I am planning for an audio LPF, just haven't gotten there yet. This is just a prototype. Lee (W1DN)

All this is a dead branch of hobbies... There's not a broadcast in any language either in Long or Medium or Short.... So there's no use of radio set assembly at all!!! I do remember late 80's with our old radio set with large scale with names of cities, London, Prague, Moscow, Berlin... In present even FM is enjoying its last days, cause we have streaming online radio...
@swradios Жыл бұрын
I agree to a point. The shortwave bands are about useless. But, I don't really design and build radios for strickly listening. I do it more for the fun of the technology, construction and challenge to make it iinteresting and simple. And also, make it pretty!!😉

@@swradios hi there! In my childhood we had several radio sets, many of them had shortwave, but we never had any broadcasting in that, the only one I managed to tune was some religious station from the Saipan island...
