I love the sound of a gazelle turbomeca Astrazou engine, such a nice compact helicopter, my late farther used to work on these back in the 80s in Germany, when he was in the R.E.M.E, he let me sit in a few when he popped into work on leave holidays. ☺️

Loved the sound of the Astazou engine!! Rare in these days

I was just wondering why it was such a distinctive sound.
@adamgardner87215 жыл бұрын
@@mikesimmonds1916 The jet pipe gave the engine the distinctive sound.....when fitted with heat shields it didn't sound the same. The other (most) distinctive sound of the Gazelle is the fenestron, the ducted fan tail rotor

The nostalgia is strong here. I grew up in Shropshire, England, and used to hear these all the time around the airbase at RAF Shawbury and near the training camp at MOD Nesscliffe. It's like 1997 all over again.

Yep...that's definitely a stealth chopper. If you are attacking a deaf enemy.

in northern ireland had one pilot report ..".gearbox locked up while pushing rotor assembly backwards during preflight checks" he continued with his mission. we got there and changed the box and found a planet gear had broken free and was floating around .... lucky pilot!

great heli. I remember being QRF cmdr in Cookstown NI in 1993. I got re tasked and Gazelle came in to pick me up. I was amazed to see pilot with Para smock and 2 Para dz flash. He had transfered to army air corps! I had a brilliant low level flight. Respect.

Had a ride in the Back as part of Bos training at Sennilager in 98. Nearest I got in Bos was they were Stationed in the same town. The spent the rest of my time in at Wattisham working with 121 ASS, till leaving nearly 20 years ago.

Very uncomfortable in the back of this helicopter, particularly with all ones kit piled on the old lap! The only blessing is that it gets there quickly, relatively speaking.

so many memories there was a valve that sometimes had to be knocked to get the engine to start.... pilots dissaproved

Not the only aircraft that one had to knock valves

That's the helicopter that was used. They just built a custom cockpit and added the forward gatling gun and all the other "goodies" used in the movie/TV Series.

Wouldn't that be cool if it was painted blue and had a giant 20mm electric cannon capable of firing 4000 rounds a minute on the nose?!
