Call of Duty couldn't do it, but Army Men could... To be honest, the carnage of Army Men was probably a more realistic presentation of the random indiscriminate shelling and flying bullets of industrialized warfare than other games.

I'm in my late 20s, and playing this and Army Men 2 is such a trip down memory lane it's untrue. I also loved the Sarge's Heroes games on PS1 and, perhaps controversially, when I was a kid Army Men Air Attack was one of my favourites. Remember playing it split screen with my dad and getting attacked by bumble bees lmao.
@AJadedLizard4 ай бұрын
I remember my father having a copy of 3D and _Air Attack_ for his PlayStation as a kid; I played them a bit, but I remember _Sarge's War_ being the one I played the most as a kid. Was it good? No, but it was still brutal in a way I wasn't expecting. I think it would've aged a lot better had it committed to TPS tropes better than it ended up doing; a lot of the locales were fun to fight through, its combat is just quite clunky.

In that first mission in the desert, there is a big endless battle going on behind the map. After I finished the campaign, I would shimmy my way over there and join the big battle and see how long I could survive the battle (not long), and how far back I could push the tans back for the glory of green. Great game.

Army Men series actually predicted lot of our geopolitical problems on this day. It is eerie to the point.
@RingworldTyrant4 ай бұрын
How, exactly? The games are based off of World War II propaganda reels to the point of hyperbolic parody, and the plot (from the manuals) is that the Green and Tan have been fighting annhilationist wars against each other for ages. Seriously, find a PDF of this game's manual and read the short story about Sarge and some Green Troopers. Their attitudes toward the Tans are like the most shellshocked US Marine fighting the Japanese in the Pacific War, they totally hate them and completely throw morality out the window. And it's wrapped up in a confidence of their position that would be incomprehensible to almost any individual today. I love the Army Men games, but how is that setup predictive exactly of anything happening in our modern world? Even current conflicts don't compare as the complexity of why they happened never enters the picture here in Army Men.

I don't think this was on the N64 but every other Army Men on the 64 I played the hell out of. On an average day it was Golden Eye, Pokemon Stadium, or Army Men. Even all these years later there is a sliver of pain I feel when I think about the Army Men series being put on indefinite hiatus, yeah sure there have been cameos in games like Rising Storm Vietnam, and I think some RTS games. But the things I'd do to get my hands on a brand new Sarge's heroes😭

I have a feeling that this was originally intended to be a World War 2 or Vietnam game, but since it would have been too graphic; they just made it plastic army men. I mean; with the exception of the coloring; the dead soldiers would have been gorier than Fallout's (then infamous) gore and death animations.
@Nihilixx4 ай бұрын
I read the Wikipedia for it and apparently they made the men plastic as to get around censorship issues. Due to Germanys strict censorship laws they wouldn't of been able to sell it there. Also yeah! thought Vietnam or cold war.
