Honestly I tried stop motion and gave up after getting a minute of footage out of two days of work. Then I saw some guy puppeteering army men and thought that would work much better for action anyway, so why not try it? Four days got me nine minutes of screentime--much more efficient. This was basically my testbed for the technique. The sequel's "animation" is much improved.

I used a bunch of free sample assets from Detonation Films (I think they still exist...). On each of their display pages they had free sample packs and I just loaded up on 'em and used Final Cut Express to composite them together.
