About half a year ago I felt this need to join the military and I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be. I looked through all the branches and a number of different MOS but when I discovered the 18X program and found out about the Green Berets I knew it was something I want. It’s very interesting to hear something from an 18X as I find few people who actually came from that program talking about their experiences. Thanks for the video!

Hey man im 20 yrs old and enlisting in the army probably in the next few months and my goal is to go the sf combat medic route. Do you have any advice?
@Adjust-Fire-jy3dyАй бұрын
18X is the worst idea the Army ever came up with. There is a reason SF prospects were chosen from the ranks of E-5 and above combat MOS NCO's. Experienced leaders, physically fit with knowledge in the Army in general is what you need to start out in Special Forces. 18X are nothing more that shake and bake Green Berets, and I sure as hell wouldn't want you on my team as one. I recommend anyone wanting to be a Green Beret get a Infantry contract first. Learn the foundation of Infantry tactics and become a Junior NCO. Then go to SFAS, if you are still so inclined.
@donjon123Ай бұрын
yeah but if you fail you automatically go to infantry and within a year two get a chance to go to SFAS again if you want. Its not a bad idea in my opinion.

To throw more wood on that fire, there are also civilian scam artists targeting people in the 18x pipeline specifically.

For about the last year I've been feeling a heavy calling on my heart to serve. My first instinct was to look into the SEAL teams because of the brotherhood. Both the challenge and the comradery that came with it were attractive. I went to see a recruiter and apparently I have too many kids for the Navy (3 now and hopefully more in the future). So now I've pivoted to the Army 18X. I'm almost 30 so waiting on two waivers but if all goes well I should be set to enlist in August. I would love to hear a video about being both a soldier and a father. I worry about making the same mistakes my dad made by being absent and passing on some of the same damage to my son. For this reason, and so my wife can be close to family while I train and deploy, I have been thinking of switching up and doing the 18X program with the Guard instead. But my wife really wants me to go active duty with the Army so we are still praying about it. I would love your perspective as someone who also has a growing family.

How old were you when you did the 18X program? I'm 25 and would have liked to be an officer but I've changed my mind. I might end up joining at 27. Would that be too old in your opinion? (Not too old for SF but is it worth it? Should i just go officer)
@spiritualoperator3 ай бұрын
I was 30 when I started basic. 27 is not to old. I was originally going officer, but recruiters said at the last minute they were full for the year. Had I gotten in as an “O,” I probably would have never made 18 series. Going SF is worth it, although I may have chosen a different MOS as 18D takes the most time.

@@spiritualoperator hello I’m looking to go into the 18x program and I’m currently a firefighter/medic in the civilian world. That has been one of my questions would I be able to select the 18D mos if I got selected? Thank you so much happy 4th
@spiritualoperator3 ай бұрын
@@exsaviervega517 absolutely… IF you get selected. Typically you need a higher GT score, but they are always needing candidates that can pass the Special Forces Combat Medic course. It is longer and you must retain a standard GPA throughout. With your medical background you would definitely get that opportunity. On a side note: if you actually wanted to go 18B with your EMS background, they very well may give you 18D anyway;)

Do you have any buddies that are army infantry? Or, get a compass, map, & protractor and find a tutorial on KZbin. Then, repetition. Day and night repetition. Over and over. Again and again. Rain, sleet, humidity… the more adverse the better.

Practice long distances, practice at night, practice terrain orientation... probably easier said than done to find training areas like that outside of a base. Practice not following roads.

@spiritualoperatorАй бұрын
@@TravisBritt-so4uf Good question. It depends on what you bring to the table. It was a 6 year contract, but with college and my GT score I signed for a 5 year contract. It could be very different now.

@spiritualoperator thank you for responding. I'm late 20s just dropped 52 pounds last 5 months, considering going all in for something like this.
@Pyraer15 күн бұрын
@@TravisBritt-so4uf It's a 5-year contract, but you will also have to reenlist to stay in SF if you get selected the majority of the time. You will need 3 years when you finish the SFQC, so like minimum 3 years at regiment. Best case scenario you can knock out basic, airborne, sopc, sfas, sfqc in 3 years. Very optimistic best case scenario. So yeah it will be more like 6-8 years if you stick with SF and there's a very real chance that 18x results in conventional, either as 11b or reclassed. If you asked me, it's better to take your desired core mos whether thats 11b or medic or plumber or whatever and then drop the SFAS packet once you have your bearings and feel pretty ready for that. 18x is an infantry contract but they dont really have a job so you can get some negative vibes from people along the way.
