Hard to beat acrylics for convenience (and cost). Also I find a lot of scale modellers have almost slavish devotion to certain brands and won't consider trying other brands. Crazy. No single range has all the best colours for all applications. Mix and match is the answer. You can use tabletop wargaming brands on scale models and vice versa. Ultimately it's all the same hobby - building and painting small scale stuff!

If you ever paint any of the Star Wars kits by the Japanese company Bandai, acrylics is a must. The plastic formula used by Bandai would crack as a result of the tension created by enamels. A little hint/tip precaution. Thanks for the video. Happy Modeling. From across the pond, cheers.

Thanks for the review and demonstration of the method! I believe it's a bit hard to see the effect, due to youtube compression ratios and lighting effects from the work bench. Maybe a 2K or 4K upload could help?

These look good paints. I am assuming that they are primarily meant for applying with a paint brush for detail painting. I tend to use the Tamiya XF range for spraying and the Vallejo paints for brushing, as I find Vallejo very good for brush painting. I note the comment below about slavish devotion to various brands but what has forced me to be like that is compatibility issues which is exactly what you had.

Thanks mate. As an (ex)-wargamer I have a ton of these kinds of paints in my stash, so it's nice to see that they can and do get used for scale modelling too. Also, being red/green colourblind, I find these triad systems really helpful when trying to match highlights/shades. It was great to meet you at Telford (I am the Kiwi modeller who chatted to you at the Spanish Civil War SIG).

I use almost exclusively acrylics through my airbrush. Most difficult thing for me is getting the thinner ratio correct, otherwise I get a lot of sputtering (cheap airbrush doesn't help)

I’m keen to know brand / type of clear coat do you mean that is resistant to enamel washes? Are the water soluble types like Winsor and Newton or Pledge suitable or not? Apologies for the Beginners curiosity dilemma, thanks for your honest videos.

Maybe, you can just buy the colours you want though
