Just came back to finish this one: I really loved the book. Jay Gatsby stood out to me as a character, I wish he wasn’t so fixated on having the image of wealth, I think he could have settled with someone who may have actually cared for him instead of chasing a married woman. I liked that little detail of Jay Gatsby’s schedule, I noticed he had a time to practice elocution which probably helped him be very charismatic. I agree with you that he didn’t actually love Daisy, just the idea of how Daisy would complement the lifestyle that he create for himself. What stood out to me was Nick Carraway’s observation at the end about Daisy and Tom’s marriage; he says something about how they go and destroy things and then retreat back to each other as if nothing happened. I think the main thing I gathered from that is that relationships are not just you and the person and thats it, the way you handle it especially if toxic can have an affect on those around you. As in this case, it was a tragic ending. On a personal level, it was a somewhat nostalgic read for me as a native New Yorker. I loved the small descriptions of places in the city or Long Island.

Indeed, Tom and Daisy were destructive as a couple and I agree that relationships like this are toxic to the people around just as much as within it. The book may be short but there is a lot of depth between the lines if you take a moment to think about it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Lovely review!Hope to read it sometime!The way you describe the story it sounds almost like a parable or fable.A fifties housewife did you say?😁You would have dispelled that notion if we had got to see you dance the charleston!!!🥂

Thank you so much! Haha, pretty sure any attempt at the charleston from me would look quite ridiculous 😆

Lovely video, really enjoyed the aesthetic. Just discovered your channel, looking forward to catching up on your content 😊 I read Great Gatsby earlier this year. I was very excited to read it but wasn´t that special to me... I saw the movie with DCaprio...looooved the aesthetic but same as the book...enjoyed it but didn´t stand out to me that much...

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it! 😊 And I get it, I felt a similar way about the movie, and I can see how people could find the book lacking, too. An acquired taste, perhaps!

I'm curious, how come? Is it the time period/style or anything else?
@reginawhitlock422710 ай бұрын
I think it might be the time period it's always seemed very strange to me otherwise I really don't know except that I can't like any of the characters or relate to them in any way just not my cup of tea lol! But I love Faulkner.
