@AlexanderIgnacio-qs6pi3 күн бұрын
hi maam, can i ask?.. Can I use (if + past simple) in non-type 2 conditional meaning? Example: If you broke that thing yesterday, I will report you to your parents. Form: If (possible past situation that was done), (present result that gonna be done) What kind of conditional is this? I am a student who have been studying english, hope you answer my question thanks 😊.

Hi Arnel, how are you ?. great video Arnel, very interesting one. Just one question Arnel, it's just a little doubt; You said that "a gerund is NOT a participle phrase and I was wondering; Aren't these phrases "participle phrases" ? - CLOSING MY EYES, I took a deep breath in. and. - RUNNING QUICKLY, he caught the bus. Thank you very much for the answers 👍.

I understood, but arnel ma'am what is a gerund, noun or an adjective in the given sentence. Please reply my question.." the current flowing through the conductor".
@ArnelsEverydayEnglish5 күн бұрын
That's a really good question. Here, "flowing through the conductor" is functioning as an adjective because it is describing "the current." It's a reduced adjective clause. The full adjective clause would read: The current THAT IS flowing through the conductor... I haven't made a lesson on reduced participle clauses yet, but I will :) I hope this helps!
@ansariakhlaque50655 күн бұрын
@@ArnelsEverydayEnglish thanks a lot ma'am, you're so kind and helping teacher. But please make a videos on reduced adjective it will really help others understand and useful for daily conversation or book related. Please ma'am make video on it.

@@ArnelsEverydayEnglish One more thing that make a video with all gerunds, an infinitive, ing adjective, ed adjective and reduced adjective in one video please. It would be really helpful.

I like eating spicy food. This informs about a general habit or preference. I like to eat spicy food. I believe this talks about intention. I like eating spicy food, so I like to eat spicy food now, let's go. Where is the next tandoori grill? They stopped smoking years ago. He stopped to smoke, but couldn't find the lighter.
@ArnelsEverydayEnglish3 күн бұрын
There can definitely be a subtle difference between the two forms. I like + ing = enjoy / want / love I like swimming. I like reading books. I like walking my dog. We could say "I like eating spicy food, so I WANT to eat ...." I like to + verb = this is good to do, but I don't necessarily like it I like to pack early so I don't need to rush. My brother likes to do his chores before he games. But, many times they are used interchangeably. Other verbs like "stop" or "remember" have greater differences in meaning whether followed by a gerund or infinitive :)

@КонстантинКоньков-я1п3 күн бұрын
"After experiencing trouble, she finally get started", here "experiencing" still to be named after gerund?! no verb conjugated with, but can be substituted with noun, no doubt. Could that be referred to as a adverbial gerund phrase?! yet it's quite a resemble to participle phrase or those tiny nuances no use to consider
@ArnelsEverydayEnglish2 күн бұрын
In this case it's definitely a gerund. 1) It follows a preposition. 2) It can be replaced by a noun. Hm...I don't think I would describe it as an adverbial gerund phrase even though it tells us when.
