Being a woodworker who’s interested in metal working I had to slow down the video in numerous places. Thanks Mr. Pete for the clear video.

When you visit a show like Arnfest, you realize that people are so nice, kind, honest, benevolent and orderly. The kind of people who build and maintain the civilization. As their proportion declines, all the civilizational standards in the society go down proportionally to that percentage. Consequently, the whole society slides down into dysfunction and all the standards fall down to the 3rd world level. It's happening relatively slowly (though with rapid acceleration in recent years), so you rarely notice this process, but when you "go back" 50 years it really is shocking.

Picked up a nice Starrett inside mic, a great pile of go/no go gages and dowel pins, about 20 pounds of drill bits that I thought would be crap, but the old guy had sharpened most of them, some stock, some grinding wheels, and about a dozen hefty Nicholson and Tome files with teeth and handles. Price was right. I'd been so jealous of you going to these sales, just had to mention it.

I'm conflicted really. Here in the UK we just don't have machinist specific 'boot sales'. Ebay, FBM, and a few individual used dealers (some of whom are not entirely scrupulous) are our main sources. I guess some of the model engineering exhibitions might have a used section but I've yet to attend one of those. I'd love to have a wander round something like Arnfest. That said, I suspect my bank manager might not be so keen so maybe it's for the best! 😂

That is a strapping tensioner and clamp tool. Used with steel or plastic strapping, run the straps through it, one lever tightens the strap, then you pull the other one and it crimps the clamp in place and cuts the strapping. That style has the clips (red area) loaded into the tool while others use a two piece type where the tensioning and cutting is one tool and the clips are installed with another.
