Lived in Reading area for 50 years now... fascinating to see this. I noticed the statue of Robert Palmer with his umbrella originally sited in the middle of Broad Street.... now in Palmer Park. I had only just been photographing it yesterday. Quite a coincidence. Thanks... very enjoyable.

I spent over 12 minutes of my life to watch the slideshow. I do not regret. A large collection of photos and nicely assembled. I really like it. Thank you for this show.

My first 28 years of life were spent in Reading & I always felt the architectural structure of the buildings shown, were unique.

Hello there! I also was born in Reading and have been watching a lot of videos where I have seen your other comments. I just had to try to contact you as my mum told us a story from when she was a child living in Romsey Road during the war. She says that a German plane flew over and started machine gunning along the road. She remembers Jimmy Avenall's mum pulling her and Jimmy under a hedge!! When I saw your name - well, maybe you are a relative?? My mum's name is Celia Bennett. Hopefully you'll see this one day!

Nicely done. I liked the way you researched the old and new. I'm thinking of doing one of just the churches. Perhaps you'll beat me to it.

So lovely to see my town like this. It pays to look up at these buildings as this is where the true history lies, unless they decide to tear the building down that is. I didn't know Waterstones was once a church.

Thanks Martha. Try using the pause button to view a particular image - I didnt want to make it any longer (probably a bit long now!)

Yeah I agree with you on that. We have churches in our town like the Reading Minster dating back to the 7th century.

I was born in Reading in the 60s. Is my childhood memory correct when I say that a coach station was situated during the 60s where The Oracle presently stands. I remember boarding Smith coaches south of St. Mary's Butts for my trips to Brighton.

Lovely photos. Shame you chose to flip through them too quickly and felt the need to use pan and zoom effects to death. :-(

Looks like Reading was an interesting town back in the day...shame its now become a bland clone-town with very few independant shops. Still it has a good train station which means you can easily escape to somewhare more interesting.
