This version is wonderful and very true to the spirit and detail of the book. Fobbs is perfect here as the calm and unflappable upper class gentleman who is often willing to delay himself in order to help someone in need yet still lives a life of perfect routine. His valet is also very funny in a different way. The film has great comedy, a slight mystery (is Fobbs the bank thief?), romance, action and a few scary sequences (The India Saiti part is really dark). All in all though it carries itself off with such a sense of fun and life. It's a real celebration of world culture as it was in the 1870s, it also has an optimistic feel that the world is shrinking and life is getting better for people. It's one of those films you just walk away from smiling.

I understand movies are movies and books are books, but I find sad that after 150 years we still don't have a serious, faithfull transposition of this book as Verne wrote it.
@VernusFilm4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! All the adaptations of this multi-layered adventure drama story by Jules Verne are extremely superficial and have only been made to make them as fun and easy as possible. An excellent animated series was an exception, but I think there would be a huge potential for a really serious but still fascinating adventurous story.
